That does it! I'm running for Congress as a Democrat!

I hate to say it. I hate Democrats, but I just don't see how I can unseat our liberal Republican congressman. CMOS, I guess you know who I am talking about, as well as Dennis should too, (initials: LS) I'm a libertarian, and don't stand much of a chance getting in on that ticket, and I know the Republicans love their guy who is in there now. I hate him. He only replies with form letters, and seems condescending. I have mulled it over, and realized that if I run as a Democrat, the Socialists (D) might spend a lot of money on my campaign just to have a Democrat who just might win. Am I crazy?
Indeed I've just had 2 shiners, and 1 coors, and so this may just be the alcohol, but it costs a lot of money to run, and I don't have the $$$$. I want this guy out, but don't know any other way. I won't be eligible 'til the next election, but really, do you think I could pull it off? This would require me to pull the wool over the Democrat eyes as well as the Republicans. I've even considered the fact that if I win, I'll spend 4 months as a Democrat, and then switch to the Libertarian Party for kicks! What could they do to me? Does anybody even have any idea of how one goes about running for a house seat?

kjm, um, sorry but who are you talking about?

I'm sure I hate him too but I just want to know who I'm hating. ;)

Lamar Smith. The man just isn't responsive, and is the type of Republican along the lines of Kay Bailey Hutchison. He seems to check the political winds prior to a vote. When I ask him about it, I get form letters that frequently have nothing to do with what I wrote him about. Surely he can do better than that. I know he's running for reelection, so maybe I'll have my say at the ballot box. When a representative ceases to be "representative" of the people, it is time for them to go. I thought you were in the same district (NW San Antonio area and the Hill Country). I'd love to use Democratic money to unseat him.

I'm in west Houston. I volunteered to help a candidate get elected in my district as Bill Archer is going to vacate his seat afetr 25 years. Luckily the new guy I helped out is a big time pro0gunner and strict constitutionalist.

More power to you. Hey, have you gone to any of his functions and talked to him personally? If not, you and some friends need to start doing so.

Good luck.

Personally I see nothing wrong with a freedom loving Republican running as a Democrat. Why not? Let the dem's and the biased news media help you get elected and then vote like someone that values the constitution. If more people would do this and actually get elected then we might be able to save the country.
Go for it.

Conservative ("yellow dog") Democrats sometimes have a good chance where Democrats are in a majority. You would get the "automatic" Democratic votes (blacks, labor, etc.) as well as conservative votes. The trick is to keep the former and not lose the latter. One deep secret is that blacks are much more conservative and pro-gun than we (and the politicians) think. I would go after that vote in a big way, without pandering.

BTW, I am a Democrat, mainly because Republicans have little or no chance in Maryland and by registering Democratic I can have an influence in the primary elections. I can also use the line "I am a Democrat, but I can't support..." in Letters to the Editor".

I really do feel like someone has to do it. I wonder if they'd look kindly on my campaign work for Ron Paul (R)?! Or maybe my membership in the Libertarian Party? Honestly, I would vote for a Democrat if I thought there was a single one worth voting for. I just can't think of a single Democrat and a very few Republicans who merit the vote.
Democrats are "the party of Jefferson." Maybe it's time someone show them how Jefferson would behave in Congress. I lack any political experience, and I am fairly poor. By next election I will have graduated from TAMU at age 33, and will probably have the good old Texas Aggie vote! I do get to check that box for combat vet, so that's a plus, but other than that, I am completely ignorant of how to go about it. I'm hoping that after this election, and things slow down, I may get the opportunity to speak with Dr. Paul about how one would go about it. I just like the idea of letting my enemies pay for my campaign. I think they'd do it just to have another Democrat regardless of whether or not I voted their way. I guess my basic principle is that the Constitution is so very simple to read and understand, that there should be no excuse for not understanding it (mental incompetents and lawyers excepted). I believe that an eighth grader could figure out the meanings, and if you could remove people from their pre-concieved notions for just an hour, and let them read each paragraph, they would come away realizing that what we've got now isn't constitutional. I dunno, I've got 2 more years to ponder...

if they'd look kindly on my campaign work for Ron Paul (R)?!
kjm-- let me shake your hand! Doc Paul is one of the ( few ) heroes in my book... would God there were more like him representing us!
As far as your running as a Dim-- h!ll, yes! Stealth campaign! Slip in under the Radar...

kjm, that is a damn good idea!!! You will get the typical Dem voting block just by running as a Democrat, and you will most likely get the "centerist swing vote." Go for it, when I leave the Service in three years I may do the same thing!!!

Err, "Yellow Dog" democrat is the name given to any yahoo who will always vote Democrat... even if the Dem is a "Yellow Dog"

Conservative Democtats in the House go by the moniker "Blue Dog" and are almost unilaterally pro self-defense/gun.

I have had that same idea also, I have been thiunking of running for our State Representative as some other party then switching to Libertarian once elected. Hey everyone else lies to get in so, for a couple months say that you are a gun owner that wants 'Common Sense' gun laws and the Soccer moms would just about have an orgasm and vote for you, then screw them by announcing your true colors. I would not be trying to get re-elected, but would be there just to shake the very foundations of the state legislature.
