Thanks for the knowledge, the handle pulled out easy after I was sure what to do. I now have a nice nylon, how can you identify one of these things. I do not see any numbers anywhere. I would assume they wood be in the stock,reciever somewhere.
I intend to hand this down to my boys someday but I have no Idea what it is worth.

Nylon 66 rifles made before 1968 do not have serial numbers. If your rifle has not been scrubbed with nasty solvents not made for guns, it should have a greenish inspection mark under the action cover on the side of the stock.

After 1968, the serial number was on the lower edge of the action cover.
