THANK YOU to the "gun nut" community

I'm looking out my home office window at a brilliant fireworks display my neighbors are doing with their kids. And I realized -- this is the first year I've ever actually FELT a patriotic stir come the 4th of July. For the first time in my life, I looked up and said thank GOD I was born in America!

Where did that come from? Not from my public schooling, where the Pledge of Allegiance was drilled in by the same empty rote as anything else -- "we don't care what (or if) you think, as long as you do what we say." Not from my Liberal Arts college education, where patriotism was hardly spoken of, and almost a relic. No.. it came from men and women like you. People who still believed in the old ways of responsibility, of self-sufficiency, and of strength.

I understand now what Jefferson was speaking of when he said practice with weapons strengthened the mind. I understand viscerally now the old adage "a man with a gun is a citizen -- a man without a gun is a subject." I finally understand and appreciate why the Founding Fathers did what they did.

I know it's hard to see amidst all the bad news and worse laws out there -- but keep the faith. Heck, if a starry-eyed liberal chick like myself could be brought over the fence, there's hope for the country yet!

Thank you.

Happy Fourth of July Kaylee!

Guns cause crime like spoons cause Rosie O'Donnell to be fat!

I hunt, therefore I am.

As you stand in the center of the light at the end of your tunnel,
it's just a freight train coming your way!

Same to you, Kaylee.

Memorial Day and Independence Day have always been important to me.

I've styled the recent three generations of my family "The Beach Boys". My father played on the beaches of Normandy, I played on the beaches of Inchon, and my son played on the beaches of the Persian Gulf.

Umpteenth great-uncle Jno Witherspoon was one of those who pledged his "sacred honor".

I don't reckon it matters WHEN these Days become important to somebody. What matters is that they are indeed important to a person, as part of the heritage which makes today's freedom possible.

Best to you, Kaylee,

Art

Sorry I don't know you and had nothing to do with your enlightenment.

Even so, your testimonial brightens my day.

Thank you, Kaylee.

Kaylee, welcome to TFL and welcome to the world of the understanding of Freedom.

A wonderful event, when we begin to 'see' the reality of it. I'll bet your spine will tingle and your eyes mist over from now on, when you hear the Star Spangled Banner, My Country 'Tis of Thee, America the Beautiful, and some other tunes.

Call me sentimental, like the rest of the 'nuts' around here, but I'm proud of it, and I'm proud of them.

Kaylee,

Thank you for your wonderful post. I have served our nation (in the defense establishment) for over thirty years. It is people like you that make that service worthwhile.

Best regards.
