My father and best friend, and former moderator at The Firing Line has passed away after a brief illness. We are all diminished.
A forty-year cop, Johnny was a scholar of firearms, history, the mechanics of criminal process and of shooting, and civil liberties. He enjoyed hunting, reloading, shooting, and reading. He was a founding member of the Dallas chapter of the Sherlock Holmes Society, and of the Denton County chapter of IPSC (back in the 1970s, when they actually did things practically.). He went to Nationals for IPSC in 1980 and 1981. He attended Gunsite under Jeff Cooper in 1980.
Johnny liked to hunt hog with TFL owner Rich Lucibella and with noted gunsmith/shooter Ashley Emerson.

Dad was known in the north Texas area in shooting and law enforcement circles. It was my honor to be pinned by him, when I sworn in as a police officer myself.
The two black and white photos are by former TFL Staff member Tamara Keel.
