TFL shoot..?

Different people have had get togethers like that over the years.
A few of us went shotgunning some years ago, and another time a bunch of us met up at the NRA Range.

I think it'd be great but we're a pretty spread out bunch.... I know of 3 or 4 regularly active members within a few hours of me.

Therein lies the problem. I would love to, but we are a very spread out bunch
If it happens, my only requisite is that people bring enough ammo for their guns so the curious can shoot them

When I competed in uspsa I flew to pasa in ill and drove to Fredericksburg. It was worth it on both occasions. If we set up the right event it might be worth it. There'd have to be a range or club to support it. Maybe if we had a couple of polls... Would you attend? Would you attend if it was in pa? Would you attend if it was in tx? Would you attend if it was in fla? Etc...

I don't know if the forum software could make this job easier, but if we could perhaps take the location of all the members and come up with an location that is most geographically centralized for the majority of members. Aiming for Texas (for example) would only really make sense if it was the closest location with a high concentration of TFL members.
I think it would also be wise, if such an event were to take place, that we try to hold it in a state that honors as many carry permits/licenses as possible.

BTW - the "Live Fire" sub forum was started so a separate place here could be used to arrange regional or other types of get togethers.
WE had a rather large shoot here in NE Ohio a long time ago also.

I use to organize these kind of meets for Texas Gun Owner forum.
The logistics can be a real pain.
The biggest problem I ever had was finding a range that was willing to take a large group that may tie up the range for the better part of the day.
Some times the cost was to prohibitive.
Other times we could work out a cost and a time frame.
The best deal we ever got was at a hole in the wall range in central Texas.
We had the range to ourselves but the range was a major dump.
The TGO forum has gone away but I hold the Meetup.com rights and still organize local meets.
Here is an idea.
Using training targets with points awarded you could have local shoots and post the group results.
Then each city could complete against each other.
At years end that group could have bragging rights for the year.

If someone tries to make it too big it's going to become a logistical nightmare.
You'd need a range for rent or a private property. The private property would be unwise to allow it without insurance.
The location would be better close to an airport than "centralized". Most folks won't drive more than a few hours, which isn't very far. Given our vast membership, a true centralized location is basically going to be smack-dab in the middle of the USA, which is to say Lebanon, Kansas.
Therein, you also get a lesson in the problem with averages, in that a location that averages the travel distances actually ends up being far away from pretty much everyone and isn't really convenient for anyone.
Moreover, while it won't be a problem in some states, it's entirely possible that state/local laws will make bringing some (or nearly all) firearms illegal. NY State, for instance, no outsider could bring any handgun, AR or any other "assault rifle" as defined by the SAFE Act.

Dude, you might be going out to find a winter coat but the rest of us would be shooting in our t-shirts.
Don't agonize over a location. Pick one that makes good sense and has the capability to handle the number of shooters you expect to attend and then don't worry about it any more past that.

I'll assume that this question is directed at me. They do not put a limit on the number of folks that I can have as guests.
My only issue/problem is I am responsible for all they do . I have found with guests that are not familiar with varying ranges and there safety guidelines tend to violate range rules/procedures no matter what you ask them to read/explain prior to shooting and at times its the most simplest of procedures that are violated. Back to your question now, the more folks that I have as guests the more difficult it gets to keep that watchful eye on all parties and again no limit on the number of guests.
My local indoor range rents out an entire range (6-8 lanes) for parties and events in Louisville, KY. I think the fee is $150

I would be up for such a thing, with a couple conditions:
1. It would have to be within a 5-6 hour drive
2. I would want a range that would allow us to have some "fun." I am not talking anything crazy, but would like the ability to set up shooting games (bowling pins, other standard target games). I just do not see it worth the time and effort if we would end up at a range that only allows paper targets to be shot from a limited number of not very long ranges.
3. I would want both pistols and rifles allowed (preferably out to 600ish yards), along with some kind of shotgun course
4. Everyone brought their most unique gun and a couple hundred rounds for all to test it with. Best show and tell ever
