Texas Hog Hunting

Dang, too bad you wanna bring a gun... Doggin is a blast. Plus most of my buddies wouldn't mind you driving...:D

You should have ample opportunity if you can find a consenting landowner. They went nocturnal during deer season last fall, but with a bait pile you shouldn't have any lack of pigs any time now. Please follow good etiquette. Most folks would be thrilled to get sum of dem damned pigs off their land, but don't take kindly to hunter slobs. Can't say I blame 'em.

Not sure what doggin is. please explain. I'm a newbe hunter with lots of big guns that I enjoy shooting. Just joined the firing line. Looks like a lot of nice folks on the forums.
Question, as to what would be the best gun.
Marlin 44 mag (lever)
Browning 308 (lever)
Hartford .357 (lever)
Smith .460 (revolver) (very loud)
Smith 44 mag (dirty hairy revolver)
I need to decide and get em shipped soon

Some of the guys I read of in texas use lever guns of centerfire calibers and 12 gauge over their dogs. I have your first post forwarded and will post this latest one as well PM me any contact info you want passed on. I will only pass it to individuals who let me know they want to contact you so not public posted (small board of hog hunters so public post wouldn't much matter but still)...

Welcome aboard. The .308 or any of the guns you listed would be fine for hogs. Here is one i dropped a couple of weekeds back. I was using my home made scout rifle(in .308win).It fell to a 40-45 yd running head shot.

And yet here is another one my buddy and i tag teamed on. He drilled this bruiser clean thru both heart and lungs and it kept on a going. I made a big running circle to get a head of it and finished it of with a 15-20 yd shot in the head with my CCW glock -29. Hogs can be pretty tough.
 
Nice work. I'll be on the plane in a few hours. I'm bringing a S&W 460 revolver, scoped with 4X leupold. Should kill any thing it hits. If I can find some hunting, I'll post the results. Wish me luck. Thanks all for your suggestions.
