Texas Highway Patrol guns?

" They use SIG Sauer p229 chambered in 357sig"

I THINK that's the same thing that the Virginia State Police is using these days.

I am PRETTY sure that is what the Montana Highway patrol issues (It says so on a list, and from what I can tell, i think it's right).

I know it's a SIG, and it looked like a 229 what I could tell.(I didn't exactly wanna stare at his gun ;)).

Good enough combo. Next time I see a Montana HP officer I think I will ask him what type of bullets he's using though.

The Texas DPS replaced the SIG P220 with P226 .357 Sigs.

Interesting, that in their first academy with the new pistol, they went through 180,000 rds. without any malfunctions whatsoever.

That was awhile back. Can't say that P229's aren't authorized now.

The last time I talked with a DPS trooper they had some leeway in terms of what they could carry. He carried a 1911 at the time. That's been a few years back so I can't say for certain that policy is still in place. I never queried him as to the number of different types of pistols firearms approved for carry.

Hey, don't go speeding down the Canyon E-Way on my account! There's a better way, you know.

I actually got pulled over on I-27 between Amarillo and Canyon last week seeing what my dad's bike will do (got clocked at 137 but I had slowed it down a little), asking him about his sidearm was the last thing coming outta my mouth though. :o

And yet they say the .357 Sig is dying.

Funny thing is, with the ammo shortage you see more .357 Sig on the shelves than anything else.

If you are wise, you get a Glock 23, add a Glock 32 barrel, an Lone Wolf 9mm barrel, and a AACK .22 unit. Then the ammo shortage isn't so bad.

Pitty the Sig 229 can't get a 9mm and .22 unit (but a .40 S&W barrel does interchange I belive.)

The DPS a while ago said when they went from the .45 to the .357, it wasn't that the .45 was a bad round, but that it didn't have that 'lightning bolt' effect of their old .357 magnum. They say now the .357 Sig does! And they are happy with both the Sig 229 and the .357 Sig.

When did the Montana FWP switch?

3 years ago the local one had a H&K .40, maybe he was using a personal gun.

I don't think the .357 Sig is dying ;) Just a little neglected because of high ammo cost. Although .357 is the toughest to find around here. the shelves are over-flowing with .40 and 9MM, but .357 Sig and .45ACP's are pretty scarce.
