Testing loads with a suppressor?

I'm working up a load for my 6BRX and just recalled the my suppressor should be arriving within the month.

Do suppressors affect barrel harmonics enough to need a load worked up specifically for their use?

I don't know a whole lot about it but I'm pretty sure they need to be subsonic but other than that I'm not sure any different. Someone with more experience will chime in

no your load will be fine. it may evenale your groups smaller. all you need to do is write down your zero.

and using supersonic is no problem, it's quiet, using subsonic makes it even quieter.

my guns that I run cans haven't had a POI, all except my new DTA 6.5 Creedmoor barrel, it's a 26" barrel. all my other rifles are dead on with or without the can. I am using a TBAC. love them

I've never seen a load that required variation due to use of a silencer.

The loudest sound component is the muzzle blast, but when you're shooting out to distances of 100 yards+, you can definitely hear the sonic boom. It's pretty cool to first hear the muzzle report, and then later, as a distinct sound component, hear the sonic boom. It's not necessary to create subsonic rounds, but it makes the round much quieter.

If you're using a silencer to help reduce flinching, then the sonic boom won't be an issue. Using a silencer in BR shooting provides a distinct advantage, even more so for beginners or the lesser skilled shooters.

As to the barrel harmonics issue, I think that is a highly overrated aspect of shooting with a silencer. The silencer and barrel harmonics may work to reduce your group sizes, but it may just as likely enlarge your groups. I've seen both. Most likely, unless you have bad mounting or barrel alignment issues, it will do nothing other than probably shift your POI a little.

Did you get a 300 can or one sized specifically for 243/6mm? I haven't seen a silencer made for 243, although I haven't paid attention to that market.

Thanks for the input gentlemen.

I got a 30 cal can. I'm using it to actually reduce the flinch of my prairie dog hunting partner. He was no fan of my muzzle brake.

No, you probably don't need to work up a specific load, but putting a suppressor on your rifle may change your POI. Contrary to the claims of some suppressor manufacturers, adding a suppressor will not necessarily tighten the group, although it does happen in many cases.

Here are several examples of POI shifts and I think the first or second link includes a couple of either non-shifts or extremely minor shifts.
