Okay, it looks like it's ready for a sneak-peek.

I want your feedback, advice, kudos (okay, I'm shameless

) please.

And you legal beagles please give any advice you feel would be important! I don't need cphv.org breathing down my neck without something to back me up!

Here's the sneak-peek. This is only a temporary site and will be taken down in a few day to be re-assembled after being tweeked at its permanent site (I hope)!:

Too Cool for Skool.

I have a little ditty I wrote titled, "Refuting Kellerman" that was plopped on another web site (Cory Brickner Freedom Pages).

It is a highly plagerized thumping of "A gun in the home is 43 times, no 10 times, no 6 times, no 2.7 times more likely to kill a loved one or acquaintance than an intruder."

I don't have the URL handy but I can get it to you eventually.

E-mail me at r.destephens@att.net and we'll talk.

VERY VERY GOOD!

I have ONE critique, however. When you click on a link, you open a new window for each link. That just loads up the person's PC with open windows.

What you SHOULD do is open a NAMED TARGET window, and then target all other links to that named window.

That way, the original window stays up (which I assume you want), but all other links just go to ONE additional window. Not nearly as aggravating, IMO.

And GREAT info at the site! Stick it to 'em!

Dennis,

I have no idea how to do what you suggest, but I agree, that is what I wanted in the first place. Maybe someone here could help me out. I'm using Dreamweaver 3 as an html editor.

I have changed the links to open in the same window, for now.

That is awesome! They could, however, potentially seek an injunction from using their intellectual property (the trade name "Center to Prevent Handgun Violence"), and I don't think just adding ".com" will change it enough. How about considering using the name "Center to Prevent Human Violence". The retains the letter "H" which legitamizes the URL "cphv", and also puts the focus where it should, on the person/actor, not the thing/gun. This small change will probably not result in much fewer people hitting the site, esp. if certain words elsewhere on the site to attract search engine returns. And this change will keep you out of legal tussles with the original/other CPHV.

Okay, I'll provide the info...

Since HTML is turned OFF for this board, I'll give an actual tag.

<A HREF="HTTP://www.mylink.com" TARGET="name">_other stuff_</A>

That's it. If you refernce that NAME for every tag, the window named will be "targeted" with all new content, leaving your original alone.

NOTE that there is a SPACE between the final " mark and the TARGET attribute. Have fun!

(BTW, I am a RANK NOVICE to HTML, even though I've been in computers for 25 years. Read ONE BOOK - $14.95. A good investment!)

Futo,

Does the name have to be a registered trademark in order for something like that to stick? If I were to register it would that be a safety buffer assuming they have not registered thier's?

Priceless! I am VERY impressed. Thanks for the link, too.
BTW, I am talking some courses in communication techniques, hope to apply them for the 2nd soon.

Beautiful! I agree with Fuko Ino and would also suggest eliminating the reference to affiliate. I'm not a lawyer though. When it's done perhaps enough FTLers and their freinds can visit it so it will appear before the 'other site' on a search.

Keep up the good work!

You'd better check and see if it is legal for you to use their graphics. If they are not public domain, you're breaking the law.

John, very good question, and the general answers are "No, it does not necessarily have to be registered with the Patent/Trademark office in order for them to have already obtained unregistered but nevertheless enforceable intellectual property rights" and "Yes, if they haven't yet registered the name, however (they may have), then it's generally first-come, first-served at the P/T office, even if the other CPHV has been in fact using the name longer than you have". If you're serious about this, then I would strongly advise you to try to get an in-office consult with a local IP (Int. Prop.) attorney - many will offer free initial consults. And his advice may be to spend the money to formally register the trade name with P/T, if not already taken.

Well, I just got off the phone with an Intelectual Property attorney. Verrrry interesting. I have never had a need for a lawyer, but he brough up some points that will spawn some changes on the site.

More to come...

Changed most of the graphics. Thanks, BTR, for the advice. The lawyer I spoke to varified what you said!

Test site will come down Sunday night.
