Okay, I told everyone I would let them know what I ended up liking best. Actually I fired the Glock 21, HK USP 45, Sig P220, Beretta Government Issue .45, the Glock .40 Caliber, the Sig P229 in .40 Caliber and the Walther P99 (I kind of liked it) I ended up choosing a Sig P220. What an awesome gun. My friend went shooting as well and is going to purchase one. I never thought I would buy a sig, I didn't see the value in it. Boy, was I wrong. I asked a local gun shop (before I fired either) and he told me, he can't believe sig is in business, he believed there was no value in a sig. I am extremely happy that there are gun shops who let consumers rent guns. Thanks to all of you!

Welcome to the P220 owners club. As a new addition to this club it is tradition to purchase a box of ammo for all current P220 owners on the board. :)

I've seen very few individuals, if any, that have been disappointed with the P220. It is a fine weapon.

I have never regretted purchasing my P220 - very reliable and accurate. I had trouble getting used to the DA/SA trigger, but with practice and a trip to TJ's Custom Gun Works, I've adapted.

BTW, P220s are great out of the box, but if you ever want a great gunsmith to work them over, TJ does an outstanding job. Not cheap, though -- but neither is a Sig.

An excellent choice, testimony to your refined taste and depth of character, not to mention extraordinarily high intelligence:D .

But seriously, the SIG P220 is a great gun. I'm confident that you'll be happy with it.

Good choice

I have a USP .45 fullsize, but I have to admit the 220 has a better grip, vastly superior DA pull, and a little less muzzle flip.

My 226 has been the most reliable semi-auto I own... even better than the Glock, and you have second strike capability.

One Downside...

Thanks for the post pruchase cuddle! I am extremely happy! One thing I forgot to add was that the pistol jammed on me everytime I reloaded, and then after 5 magazines it wouldn't chamber a round. This gun was really old, the magazine did not feel springy....but nonetheless slightly disconcerting. Thanks again, N8.

Sounds like you need to disassemble the mags and clean them and maybe replace the springs for good measure.

The only SIG I own is a 220. Traded for it, thought it was a 45 but when I got it home found out it was in 38 Super. Very accurate gun. Good Luck.

Let me add my congrat's on your purchase of the
world reknowned Sig P220. This is one helle'va
combat firearm. I can attest to the reliability and accuracy of the P220. It is simply an
outstanding semi-auto pistol. Hope you enjoy
your's; as much as I have mine.

Best Wishes,
Ala Dan, Life Member N.R.A.

Tubby the p220 is in 45acp. If yours is a 38 super there is a problem or the guy you got it from made some modifications to it.

Not all 220s are in .45. Some were made chambered in 38Super and 9mm. A local shop has one of the 9mm 220s for a decent price, but that is a really large pistol for a single-stack 9mm.

The Sig 220 used to be imported by Browning as the Browning BDA in 9mm, and probably .38 Super. Back in those days, it had the European style magazine release on the heal of the grip.

Congrats and welcome to the family! Excellent way to choose and weed out the guns to know what fits you best. That is how I did it. I ended up breaking it down between an Hk USP45 and the P220, and I just fell for the Sig P220 also which my buddy just bought from me. Now I am waiting ten long days before I get to take my new P220ST baby home.

I just saw my P220ST for the first time today, and man was it a heartbreaker. What a beauty! Don't forget to feed her well. A well fed Sig is a happy Sig, just like me!:D
