Tempting deal on a 10mm...Stuck!

Ran across a tempting deal on a S&W 1006 10mm with three mags, extra Hogue wood grip and 500+ rounds of ammo. I have him down to $950. Not bad with all the ammo. They go between $800 and $1000. Makes the deal really tempting.

I was originally in the market for a Tanfoglio Witness Elite Match in 10mm. Really thought I was settled and mind made up until the 1006 popped up. The Match has an adjustable trigger (takeup), two mags, and a case (think something else comes with it a mag loader?). So I am only giving up a mag and getting it @ $628 delivered and FFL fee included. Since I do reload I can reload cheaper but brass is $75-$80 per 500. I cast my own bullets too but between powder+primer I am still looking @ $110-$115 for 500 rounds plus my lead cost. That's another $13+. I'm in for a total of $756 max.

I am personally familiar with the 1006 and with some witness models but none of the heavy framed 10mm Witness models though they are getting great reviews.

$200 more for what I know vs what I don't. Used (yet they are like tanks and last forever) vs new. Not made anymore (collectable) vs more common. Really stuck on this one. I really love those 3rd gen S&W pistols yet I have a buddy that has one (1006). I can shoot it if I really feel the need. If I did get it I would not be worried too much about it breaking (refer to the aforementioned built tough/last forever).

This is a real tough one for me as I want something to pass down to my boy and not just another toy to trade in a whim. The purpose of whatever I choose will be range/plinking for the most part until he inherits it. Just stuck on which one to get!

I suppose the 500rds. of ammo are reloads ( I don't shoot other peoples reloads) if it's factory ammo it sure would be tempting, there not going to make anymore Smith 10's. I too like the 3rd. gen smiths, I've got a old 5906 in my belt now.

I vote S&W. But I always vote S&W. Except when S&W is not an option, then I still try to vote S&W.

I would go with what I know, unless you can find an opportunity to do a shake down on the Witness and find you like it more.

Me too for my little girls inheritance! :D

Yeah shaking down that particular witness might be a bit hard to do since they are rarely in stock anywhere. Then there is the trying it before buying it type scenario. Could wait for one to pop up used but I have seen more 1006's come up for sale than the Elite matches. If it were a 1026 I would not hesitate!

Maybe off something else in trade to bring the price down on the 1006? Dunno. Need to keep him talking long enough to make up my mind yet try not to show too much interest I suppose.

I know there's different grades on the Tanfoglios, not sure which one I had, but it was a double-stack 45 and I liked it OK, but the S&Ws are my favorite - I have a 4506 right now that is like BUUUHTTTERRRR.

Wreck-n-Crew, The S&W! I've owned multiple 1006s, 1026s, 1076s and even a couple of 610 revolvers. OK, I admit I'm biased in favor of the S&Ws. The S&Ws were all reliable and durable with all the factory and reloaded ammo I've used, to include the "real" 10MM such as the old Norma, Buffalo Bore, etc., and equivalent reloads. The S&Ws are a known quantity to me. The Tanfoglios may be very fine guns, but I've never gone there....ymmv

PS, several years ago I bought a 1026 that appeared to be NIB with everything. I still have that gun and am going to try to hang on to this one for the foreseeable future, instead of trading it off to buy the latest shiny new thing as I've done with too many S&W 10MMs in the past;-)

Just said 1006 mine for $925!..man....really making it hard on me to say no! with 3 mags, 2 grips and over 500 rounds. See what I can arrange with meeting the guy and laying hands on it. I know what happens then...if the past is any sort of reflection on the near future that is.

Sure it's his bottom dollar. even $800 for the gun is not bad by itself...Get a lot more for the extra $125 (looking at it that way).

Deal fell through. Turns out he is an out of state resident and did not want to FFL it which would have been extra anyway. Guess it's for the best. :( Looks like I am back to the Witness Elite Match!

I was going to suggest the Tanfoglio Witness Stock in that price range...but I see prices have gone up on the Stock and Stock II. If you can find a slightly used Stock in the $700 range, I'd jump on that.

Or, hold out for a good used 1006 - nothing wrong with that. I wouldn't mind having one myself.

Where are 1006s going for $800-$1000 in Ohio? I live near Dayton and have one for sale with 3 mags and absolutely no one will pony up the $750 I've been asking for it. Ps. If you're interested I'd sell it to you for $700

Actually $627 delivered. Looking to buy one? :D

Wished I had! lol.

Heck now that it is on the way I might as well see how she shoots right?

Is it the Stock or Stock II? If that's what you paid for it, you got a heck of a bargain. I have the Stock that I paid over $700 for, slightly used, and I wouldn't trade it for a S&W 10mm. While I still want a S&W 10mm for the collection, I would much rather shoot my Stock 10mm.

Had you posted this 2 weeks ago, I could have saved some money. My local FFL had a prestine 1006 with box, manuals 2 mags for 679.00. I was tempted but passed on it.
