Tempted to get a Beretta..

In light of my continued disappointment in the actions of many gun companies (Colt, Ruger, S&W, to some extent Glock), I have found myself tempted to give my business to Beretta, partially because of their steadfastness in sticking up for themselves--ie, throwing Gov. Glendenning's money back in his face, considering sueing HCI over use of the 92Fs likeness, etc--and partially because they are just good guns. Anyone else feel this way?
While I'm at it, what are your experiences with the Cougar 8045? They seem like great guns. How do they compare to the 92 series, or Sig 220? Most of my shooting has been done with Glocks and 1911s, but I wouldn't mind having a good, traditional DA auto, esp in .45 ACP.

hemlock, Feel free to do so I agree, I own several Berettas in the Cougar line and I am very pleased with them. I believe that they are very good value for the money. I also to like their approach to the anti gunners. They will be getting more of my business in the future. If you haven't heard they are now coming out with a new 9000 series it looks pretty good and I will be checking them out when they hit the market.

Happy Shooting :)

I think you will be happy with any of the 92 or cougar guns. They are unique in that they do what they are supposed to do every time.

And I absolutely agree to support companies that support gun owners.

Smith&Wesson can do as they like, but based on the deal they cut with the govt. I can no longer afford them in my shop. So,with no more ruger, colt,hi powers,S&W's--I can see a lot of business going berettas way. And dont forget Springfield either. They seem to be with us on this issue.

i am a proud owner of 2 berettas. i'm a "proud" owner because of what you mentioned with beretta fighting gun control and because berettas are just good guns. i have a 92FS and a 92G Elite. my 92FS is the most reliable gun i have ever shot (can't beat 100% reliability in over 2500 rounds). and my Elite is extreemly accurate and reliable. i don't know much about the cougars since i think they are an awkward size (right between compact and full size) so i don't see a place where they have an advantage over a 92 series. but i can strongly reccomend a 92 series beretta to anyone who wants a good gun.

Beretta's are excellent guns. I have two 92's and have shot Cougar's in both .40 and .45. The recoil is soft and muzzle flip is minimal. I would recommend a Cougar to anyone who wants one........

I recently bought an 8045 for the exact reasons you stated. My experience is similar to yours also. I love the Couger. An I like Beretta's stand on the gun control issues. Maybe these other pussies will get the message.

Russell92 is right on with his comments on the 92 series. I put 200 rounds through my new 92G Elite this morning and my arm feels like I was shooting a .22 Recoil is very minimal and I can hang on with the lightest grip than any other pistol I've shot. The big Beretta frame(although not at all to big for my smallish to medium size hands) muffles recoil and flip excellently....

The breakdown and re-assembly of a 92(96) has to be the easiest of any pistol I've handled.

I sold my Glock 20C and 26, and bought a 92FS and Springfield V10, based on two criteria:

1. Both companies aren't just in it for the money, but because they support RKBA;
2. Their reputations for quality are stellar.

No more Glocks, Rugers, Colts, or S&Ws for me.

Tempted to get a Beretta? Just lie down with a cool 1911 across your forehead 'til it goes away lol :) ---- slabsides

If they take our guns, I intend to let my hair grow long and acquire the jawbone of an ass.

I would have to agree that Beretta makes a fine gun I just pray that it never needs warranty work or that you don't ever need anything from the company. I owned(past tense)4 Berettas and after going through several months of not getting any response out of them other than the run around I sold all of them and will never own anything with the name beretta on it again. You see in my opinion regardless of their gun control stands or what not if a company refuses to provide good service I don't need or want them.

Compromise is not an option

Hemlock:

Beretta sued HCI and won. The CEO, Dr., Beretta, recently flew all the way from Italy to tell Chairman Glendenning of the people's republic of maryland and the brown shirts from the wh that there would be no smart gun technology, internal locks or other gun control measures taken on by Beretta-----military contract or not.

92 series facts:

no stamped or cast parts----all machined

each pistol is proof fired with a 55K-65K load and then magnafluxed for stress and cracks

machining tolerances to within the width of a human hair

each pistol is tested on a machine where the slide is cycled 300-400 times

Chrome-lined bore

direct chamber loading okay

reversible trigger spring

Frame life average: 35K
Slide life average: 75K
Locking block life average: 22K

The 92 has proven its ability to be dropped into a fire zone and function straight from the crate with no cursory QC checks.

They are not without flaw but they are among the finest and you will be supporting a no-compromise manufacturer.
