Tempted by an Old 870...

Saw a little something at the local gun shop today (imagine that.)

Remington 870 Special Purpose, 3" chamber, 18-1/2" barrel with rifle sights (it may have been 20", but the clerk/shop owner said 18"), finish was kinda thin, a bit of surface rust, but internally it was perfect. Decent trigger (light, could use a bit of stoning to take out the creep.) Oh, it was an older model without the mag tube detents or the internal lock.

Asking price was $199.

I'm not sure I can afford it right now, between school and other assorted expenses. And while I really would like a defensive/three-gun shotgun, I kind of have my heart set on a selfshucker.

But still, $199. It sounds like quite a deal.

Hmm.

What do you guys think?

At $200, a Special Purpose 870 is a good deal. It would make an excellent defense shotgun. If you don't already, you'll grow to love the 870 pump.

query- rifle sights...I'm asuming the barrel is still smoothbore, right? As in, its not a dedicated slug bbl.

If so, and you like the sights, I'd get it. Sounds like a gem.

I like the 20" rifle-sight barrels the best. 199.00 is what I paid for my second used 870. It's a fair price.
I bought another used SG (pre dimples, etc.) from this guy

for 155.00.
That was a very good deal IMHO. It has a 20" barrel but no rifle-sights.

That's the same price as the one I'm picking up this week. 870, 28" barrel, mod choke, looks brand new. My first 870.
