Temperature and firearms

How big of an effect does temperature have on firearms? I was considering building a hidden gun cabinet in the garage but was concerned with temperature variations. Here in the southwest, it can reach over 100 degrees in the summer and commonly gets into the teens and single digits in the winter. The cabinet would be insulated but not climate controlled. Any thoughts?

Gradual temp changes will have no effect at all.

Sudden changes that cause condensation can be a problem, and high humidity can be, if you have a concrete floor

The good news is a light bulb in Winter, along with some ventilation, can stop most problems

If I was super cautious I might throw in a couple silica gel (or some kind of desiccant stuff) but I think you're good to go.

Given the temps you list it might not be the best for long term ammo storage but short term (less than a year) would most likely be fine.
