Was flipping through the Brownells catalog today looking for some ideas on my 1911 project. (I know, looking through a catalog for ideas = I have too much money?)
Brownells carries a .460 Rowland "drop in" kit for 1911s, which is basically a barrel w/ comp and slide.
(More: http://www.clarkcustomguns.com/rowland.htm)
Clark's web site says that this conversion is sold only with the comp, because the comp prevents damage to the gun.
When firing higher-powered cartridges like this from a 1911, what are we looking at in terms of excessive wear? Any ideas on what that comp does to supposedly moderate wear?
