Tell me about your 6.5 Creedmoore

I'm a 6.5 Loony, but I haven't bitten the Creed. I've had a 260 for many years in a Savage WW and it shoots 129s into .5". I have a Grendel that shoots 123s into .3". I have a 6.5-06, which launches 129s at 3070. I am, however, loading a Creed for a buddy.

Cartridges go in the part that opens.
Trigger makes big bang.
Bullets come out the dangerous end.

I like to view performances as something like a neutered .270 Win.

I love 6.5 Creed for one reason:
As a "plug and play" long range cartridge, with good ammunition and a wide variety of rifles available off the shelf, it made it easy for people to jump in to "long range shooting" ... even if they lacked the ability to actually shoot worth a crap. Marketing tapped into the fantasies and dreams of people that secretly want to be 'snipers', and made available to them the tools for LARPing.

6.5 Creed was the primary catalyst for the 6.5mm bullet market to finally get some serious love and lead to a glut of new designs and options; as well as bringing attention to other 6.5mm cartridges, which made other components more available and/or accessible (such as brass).

I wanted a 6.5-284 Norma for years - my brother, for even longer. But we could never talk ourselves into building or buying the rifle(s), because bullet selection wasn't the greatest and availability was even worse; and brass wasn't the easiest thing to obtain.

6.5 Creed changed that, and I am grateful.

I bought a Ruger Predator just to see what the fuss was about. I'm impressed. I've found it to be the most accurate, easiest to load for cartridge I've ever shot. I don't even bother shooting mine at 100 yards anymore. Getting sub 1" groups at 200 yards is pretty common. Recoil is between 243 and 308, but closer to 308.

For the informal target shooting I do the best 140 gr+ bullets started at modest velocity simply retain speed and energy to insanely long ranges with very little recoil. Much farther than I have the skills to shoot, but there is no downside to shooting at the more "normal" ranges that I shoot. Around 600 yards is as far as I'll likely ever shoot.

I haven't hunted with mine yet. I still consider it a range toy, but that may change. I have "nicer" rifles that I just like better for now. But there is no reason it won't kill anything a 270 or 308 will kill. 6.5 bullets are .3mm smaller in diameter than 270 bullets and the 6.5 CM starts the same bullet weights 150-200 fps slower at the muzzle. But by the time you get past 250 yards the 6.5's come pretty close to catching up. No animal will ever know the difference.

I’ve got one in a Tikka and it is a great shooter. I’m just fonder of the 260. I’m going to sell mine and buy a decent bow for this year.

My Shilen 6.5C barrel was purposefully mis-chambered for 260 Rem before 6.5C took off. It's about the same though. There's nothing not to love about the cartridge itsself. Easy shooting, light recoil, excellent off the shelf ammo selection for hunting and long range. The 6.5C bandwagon people and the 6.5C bandwagon haters, on the other hand, can be, well...a little too passionate about their opinions, but that's another story.

X-Bolt in 6.5C is a fantastic combo.. hopefully it'll wear a worthy scope.

I like .264 dia.
I have 6.5x55, 6.5x284, 6.5 Creedmoor, .264 Win mag, 6.5 Rem Mag, 6.5x300 Wby. Of them all, the 6.5x55 is my favorite. To me, its superior to the 6.5 Creedmoor in every respect.

I only have a 6.5 manbunn. Never touched a 6.5x55. So, out of curiosity, how is the Swede superior to the Manbunn?

cant say much about mine yet as ive been playing with my 6.5 grendel a hell of alot more then my creed but ive been shooting 1200-1800 yards with the grendel , my creedmoor is launching the same bullets as my grendel at around 600-700 fps faster so really looking forward to playing in the 2500+ y range with my creedmoor

Just bought a Browning X-bolt in this caliber, what can you tell me about it?

That when I shoot my Savage 12 FTR in .308 up against a 6.5CM I get my azz whooped score wise every shot ?

don't have one

I don't have one, and don't foresee getting one either, though the siren song has been ringing in my ears for some time now. I recognize the CM's ballistic advantage, especially at distances past 400-500, but I am mostly a hunting rifleman (for whitetails) and can't see a situation with my hunting here in the southeast where the 6.5CM offers any advantage over rifles/calibers I already have.

Much the pity, as a Kimber Hunter in 6.5CM would be a light and effective deer rifle.
