Tell me about the Ruger Single Ten

Been looking at getting my first wheel gun. After looking around for a bit I think I'm settled on a .22 so I don't have to worry about keeping another caliber of ammo in stock.

Found a guy locally selling a lightly used Single Ten for just over $400. He claims only about 50 rounds through it and that it's in overall excellent condition. Is that a decent price for it? Anything in particular I need to check before handing over the cash (remember, I'm a revolver noob)?

Did you price them on Gunbroker? I think you can buy a new one somewhere around $475. To me , the used one would need to be at least 25% off the price of a new one or I'm buying a new one. I have heard nothing negative about the six or the ten. Good Luck.

Looks like about $435 for stainless and $405 on the blued.$400 is high. That's 35 less than he paid for it, I'd pay no more than about $325 for a used one.

Aside from his price being high, you need to ask yourself why he's selling it. Remember, it's the Single TEN. 50 rounds is only five cylinders worth of shooting -- one box of .22 ammo. Maybe he just didn't care for a .22 revolver, or maybe he decided a six gun should be a six gun and not a ten gun ... or maybe there's a problem he's not telling you about.

Yes, do be suspicious of why he is selling it.
And, negotiate for a lower price.
I haven't seen any first hand reviews of the S10 yet. Can only assume (hope) it is just as reliable as the Single Six.

The last couple of times I was in Cabela's in KC there were at least two of these for sale as used. They had not been out very long and it surprised me. I am a big fan of the single six and would like to shoot the ten as well. I have heard some people complain they can't shoot the mags in the ten. I doubt if people shoot that many mags through the mag cylinder anyway but I could be wrong.

I know I don't use my 'mag' cylinder. I tested it to make sure it works .... but now it just sits in the cabinet. 22LR is good enough :) . I'd like to get a single-ten sometime for the 'novelty'. Remove the front sight and put a 'normal' sight on it. Someday!

I just decided to pass on it... Got a new 1911 recently, that will have to be enough new gun for the moment.
