www.navyarms.com has 12 shot Enfields in .308 for about 150 bucks. Their blurb is:

DELUXE 2A ENFIELD SPORTER, CAL. .308 WIN. Fitted with a Zytel Monte Carlo stock, this sporter still retains its 2A Enfield military sights.  Bbl. Length: 25"; O.A.L.: 45 1/8"; Weight: 8 lbs. 9 oz.; Magazine Capacity: 12 rds.; Caliber: .308 Winchester Mod. No. RE2ADS - $150.00    (FFL Required)

Tell me more before I go buy a half-dozen...

Quite a few folks here know a lot about this specific critter. I'll just point out that it's not the lightest rifle around. Add the weight of a sling and 12 rounds of ammo; and another near-pound if you put a scope and mounts on it...

Recoil sure won't be a factor!

Best source of on-line info for Enfields is the Gun & Knife board. I do not have one of the Ishapore 2A 7.62s, but do have one 1917 SMLE and somehow now own 4 #4s, all in .303. The 'zytel' synthetic stock is probably the Advanced Technologies product. I put one on a #4 and liked it so much as a general utility rifle that I now have three in that configuration. The quality on the Ishapore 7.62s is reportedly OK but you will probably find the action to be a little springy and case life shorter than normal. If you stick to factory ammo you will probably not notice one way or another.

I love my Ishipore. I thought about putting a sporter stock on it, but I just like the look of it to much the way it is. I will probably have to buy another with a lighter stock. For an all purpose beater gun, they are darn near impossible to beat. Group sizes have been under 4' at 100 yards. Thats open sighted, with me shooting surplus ammo. In the hands of a competent rifleman I'm sure they are capable of much more.

I named mine "Big Ugly".

A good Ishie with good (preferably handloaded) ammo will do 1MOA without breaking a sweat. You, however, *will* break a sweat lugging the beast around. But, like Art said, that weight will nicely counteract the recoil, although my 4-1 with a sporter fiberglass stock doesn't kick hardly at all anyway.

Go get one, CT. You won't be disappointed.

ps: "Big Ugly..." that's what I call the Turk Mauser I've been eyeballing at the shop. :D

Well, I've never really done any serious accuracy work with it. But milk jugs at 100 yards live in fear. :)
