Tech Questions on 870 magnum

Is it possible to thread a smooth bore barrel for let's say a Marine Magnum, for a pattern master choke. I've been wondering how tight of a pattern someone could get out of a shorter barrel. I've seen first hand what a pattern master can do at 90 yards shooting 3.5 triple B.B., it's awesome.

Threading barrels for after-market screw-in chokes is strictly a matter of whether or not there's enough barrel thickness present.

In most cases, newer American made shotguns do have enough to allow installation.
For the final word on this, the installer will have to see the gun.

Barrel length (within reason) has no effect on patterning.
An 18" barrel can shoot as tight a pattern as a 30" barrel.

Won't pattern open faster with a shorter barrel?? So what your saying is a Marine Magnum with a full choke 18.5 inch smooth bore barrel will hold the same pattern at 25 yards as a 26" barrel?

Generally the same pattern.
Again, barrel length has little to do with patterning.

Most of the difference in patterns between guns has to do with the choke, and individual guns shooting ammo differently.

Yep! Pretty much the only thing a longer barrel does is get you a little faster load and better sight pitchure or I should say you can align better on the target.

You should see me shoot clays with my Benelli M1 super 90. With a full choke and #8 shot I can reach way out there. Kinda tough using rifle sights but I got use to it :D
