TCW Ammo for the Makarov ???

I went by my local Army-Navy store today and to my surprise, they had two kinds ammo for the Mak. I bought some Blazer hollow points to carry until I can find some CorBon.

The store also had some target ammo made in Russia. The plain white box says "TCW Ammunition". The cartridges are non-corrosive 109 gr. FMJ in a steel case. Has anybody had any experience with this ammo? It was a bit high at 8 bucks a box of 50, but I went ahead and bought a box to try in my new Makarov. I'm just wondering what to expect out of this stuff.

It's not "target ammo", it became "target" to
make the price look "right". Normal price is
$6 per 50. Ammo is pretty hot for 9x18 cal. (1030 ft/sec) and 100% reliable, accuracy is O.K. Good stuff, transformes Mak into a little beast...I personally like it a lot.

It is hot. For a while, I had a hard time shooting accurately with it. After playing with .45acp I came back to the Mak and it worked fine. Pierce rubber grips strongly recommended.

Good ammo, IMO. http://dd-b.net/RKBA/pistols/9x18.jpg Right now, I have Corbon and Fiocchi loaded in my Makarov but the other mags have TCW in them.

I've used the TCW, the Blue box Russian (95 gr), Wolf, and the Barnal JHP Russian. They all work great in the Mak. They will eat the 10 ring out of a 50' rapid fire target at 10 yards. I agree with Oleg, the Pierce Grips are a must have if your going to shoot your Mak alot. Like Oris said, about $6.00 a box for any of the above if you buy in case or 1/2 case lots.

Guyon,
TCW and Wolf are both made by Tula Cartridge Works in Russia. As the story goes, TCW was considered "military" ammo by the Clinton Administration, and therefore frowned upon. The enterprising Russians simply took their "military" ammo, dressed it up in a fancy box with a wolf on the label, changed the head stamp, and magically transformed it into Politically Correct "Sporting" ammo. In fact, some of the early Wolf ammo I shot, had the TCW head stamp.

I've found TCW and Wolf to be excellent ammo for my Soviet style firearms (Makarov & AK), but truly lacking in traditional "Western" calibers (9mm, .45 ACP, etc.) Going rate for the 9x18 is $6 or less, a box.

OK Houndawg, you're right, I'm wrong, so I corrected it. ;)

I am shooting my way through a case of Wolf now!! Not bad for cheap stuff. It is a little hot, and a little dirty, and you get an occasional dud, but not bad!! :)
