TC Venture Recall

FYI there is a recall on Thompson Center Ventures.

Seems the might not be what they used to be...

Quote From the S+W site:

"During an internal technical review, Smith & Wesson determined that some of the sears used on Venture rifles produced from August 1, 2011 to October 28, 2011, may not have been manufactured to specification. Because the sear is an important part of the firing mechanism, we are asking that all of the rifles produced during this time period be returned to Smith & Wesson so that the firearm can be inspected by our technicians to ensure that the rifle operates in a safe and appropriate manner."

Maybe, I think it is just a mess over at TC now that Smith and Wesson bought them. I bought a venture in August, it has been back to the factory three times and I still don't have a working rifle. Different issues than the recall though.

TC Venture Issues

I bought a 308 venture in June, when cleaning it I found that the barrel was "loose" in the middle. Sent it back and received a replacment within 3 weeks. Cleaned that one and it had "railroad ties" at the end of the muzzle 1 inch and 4 inches in, shot it three times (maybe I was just being picky right) all three cases of factory loads came back showing pressure signs. sent that back to TC and they lost it for a month and claimed the same store that sent in the first one shipped it wrong. Finally I got someone at customer service who cared and called me back and offered me any other caliber, I said no you can't make bolt guns evidently send me an Encore (I was polite about it) he said his boss couldn't authorize that cuz a warrenty ishuz, what ever. So after a few more calls they agreed to send back my money. So finally after 5 months with my money and all the hassell they send me a check, cold, with out even so much as a sorry. So there is more to the story but long story medium I won't buy any TC's and neither will any of my friends or family. Too bad, I always wanted a TC single shot. Guess I will see what CVA has....

SLCBill - That sounds a lot like what I am going through now. Everyone I talk to says "Well I'm not authorized to send you a new rifle, I'll have to talk to the next highest guy up". The person who can authorize a new rifle seems to be nothing but a myth. Been doing this for 3 weeks now (since they received it for the 3ed time). I would just stop payment on my credit card if it wouldn't just be hurting the store where I got it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles and the recall situation. I purchased my Venture in October of 2010 and haven't had a single problem. The rifle has show under 1" groups with factory and handloads. It has been very forgiving of my abilities:D:D

Hate to say it but maybe they don't need our money, give it to Howa instead. My Howa 1500 shoots great and the barrel is perfect. Just wish I had a Bell&Carlson stock instead of the Axiom pistol grip.

That sucks about T/C I have a Ikon and it shoots pretty good a friend bought the Venture and hasn't had any problems either, but from what I have read and heard we may have gotten lucky and gotten some good ones before they turned sour.............

At least they found the problem fairly quickly, have admitted it is a problem, and have recalled the affected rifles. I can think of one big company that should have done something like this years ago when they had a similar problem.

I have an Icon in 308 Winchester that is a tack driving machine. This was shot late last month with 168 grain Barnes Vor-Tx ammo(TTSX) and an old Leupold Vari-X ii scope.
