TC Kennon Rifle

I recently had the pleasure of picking up another mauser for my collection and I have some questions to ask. It is a sportered 6.5x55 and is marked TC Kennon. The stock is a heavy monte carlo style and has been very nicely fit to the rifle. It has been bedded and floated very well and overall looks as if it this gentleman took a lot of time making this rifle. I have searched for this gentleman's name and I can find only a bit of information pertaining to him. Most of it is the same info just copied and pasted to various forums. Does anyone have a Kennon Rifle? How do they perform? Did I get a market value sporter at $300 or did I get away with a great deal (the rifle is in wonderful condition minus a couple scratches in the stock)? Haven't shot it yet as I am waiting on the scope to come in, what can I expect in accuracy?
Just looking for a little information on anything pertaining to Kennon rifles really. It will probably stare down a few whitetail this year and I want to know what I am working with.

Here a few pics of the rifle. I took off the old Weaver K4 scope and have ordered another. It was probably top of the line when this girl was built but she needed an upgrade.

Plain but well done, $300 was ok.

Interesting that he rebarrelled it back in 6.5x55.
Back when that kind of work was being done, I'd have expected a 7x57 or maybe a 6mm Rem or .257 Roberts. All with more ammo available.

I also thought that was a bit strange that it was barreled in 6.5. Custom order maybe? It is however one of the biggest reasons I picked this rifle up, as I generally like 98 actions more than any other. My grandpa owned one rifle that I ever knew of and it happened to be a 6.5 Swede that he had received as a gift many years ago. Did not use it much because he thought his old pump shotgun was good enough to take any NC game he would ever encounter. That man taught me more about hunting, shooting, and life in general that I could gain from a truck load of books so the caliber is somewhat special to me.

Thanks for the pictures...

It's an attractive rifle in a basic elegant sense. I like it.

It should shoot well with the new barrel.

I'm one of those guys that would have put it back to 6.5x55. I love that round.

I'll give you $300.00 for it! ;)
