TC hawken 50 cal kit

I have a kit that is in the original box that has been opened but all the parts are still in the bags and unopened. It is the thompson center hawken
.50 caliber. It appears to be from the early 80's. I was wondering what the value may be and if anybody would be interested in buying it. thanks

The last one I was able to purchase, I paid $315.00. Of course they are no longer available. Did your come with a plain white metal barrel or a blued one? Are the instructions still in the box? I would be interested if we can come together on a price... .... ;)

Neat find. Basically the TC 'kit' is a click-click, snap-snap assembly job.
Finding a buyer should not be hard. Value $300.00 to $500.00 depending on where you advertise.

Hardly, but compared to a custom shop, it goes fairly well if you don't rush it. I have reworked many kit guns that were rush jobs. I can usually spot these kit guns from across the room. The instruction even warn you against rushing the job. The brass work alone can take you the better part of a day. There is also some fitting work that will have to be done. .... ;)

Might ask if it's worth your time and trouble. By my measure, it surely is. ... :)

I bought one of those kits for $99 through Charter Oaks back around 1980. I built it up really nice, browing the barrel which I had painstakingly draw filed, and all the brass work. Never shot it and traded it to a guy who fell in love with it at a gun show for a Winchester 94, which was another gun I wanted. I made that Winchester into a takedown model, and refinished it in black chrome, decorative chrome, and hard chrome. Looks nice and handy to transport, but doesn't shoot worth a darn. I wish I had just left that Winchester like it came from the factory, or kept the Hawken. Memories.
 
Have done a couple of the T/C kit guns myself. The first one was a click-click, snap-snap job and the rifle turned out looking just like a click-click, snap-snap rifle. It was an awful looking thing.

Took me twice as long to straighten my mess out on that rifle then it did to take my time and build the second kit with much more care.

There's a complete T/C Hawkins 50cal. in very good shape in at the LGS for $275. They've had it awhile and I've been keeping an eye on it. Literally! Took the bore-light and nipple wrench in last time I was in there and the bore is clean with no pitting. Took the nipple out, nipple threads had anti-seize on them and the breach looked clean.....ok, I'm gonna go get it tomorrow.:o
 
A few years ago a semi-retired teacher owed me $150 for a public history program we did. He said he had something in the trunk to show me first. It was a Hawken rifle he handled for history classes: it had only been test fired and he had another one NIB he was keeping to put over the mantle. This was perfect. I immediately saw it had set triggers. I found it was .50 (my "caliber"). It was a T/C. And it had all the accessories with instructions plus some caps and balls. He asked if I'd prefer that to the cash... I surpressed my disbelief and excitement and quietly agreed.

'course, then he kept trying to invite himself over to my house but at least he stopped talking to me when I firmly rebuffed what I finally recognized as "his advances," however, that's a story for a different kind of site.

I bought and built three of these. I bought them for $185 apiece. First one was for me. Two of my friends loved mine and wanted one, so I bought two more, finished them and gave it to them for cost.

Thompson Center Hawken barrels are all 1:48 ROT except for a few special build .50 cal deep button rifled ones; they were 1:60 ROT.
