Let me start out by telling you all I’m new to posting to the group but I’ve been lurking for about 6 months. I have learned alot but apparently not enough. Here my confession and forgive me for I have sinned.
Last month I bought a Taurus PT-140. I have been an avid wheelgun guy(Colt,Ruger,S+W) but I do own a PT-22 and really like it alot and found it reliable. I had been hearing that Taurus had really progressed in quality and when I saw the PT-111 last year I thought it would be a great gun for carry. I liked the DAO and at the time liked the idea that it also had a manual safety.(more about that later). After my wife and I got our CCW’s I started looking around for a carry gun for me. The wife has a Ruger Sp-101 and I couldn't get it away from her and my other revolvers are a little large to put anywhere but under the seat or the car. I looked into getting the PT-140 and finally found one and went into my waiting period. Now no one has mentioned that it only comes with one mag, so I called Taurus and ordered a couple and was told it would be delivered in 1-2 weeks.@$35 each. OK. Got the gun , cleaned and lubed it and ran a 100 rounds of CCI lawmen hardball through it with 10 lite strikes and at least as many failures to feed. The trigger was really horrible and the safety didn’t feel very positive. In fact I found it off after I put it in the box with it on. So I sent it in the next day to Miami ($29.00) for a trigger job and to address the other problems. The promised a 2-3 week turnaround. At that time I also asked about my mags and they said they were not on backorder and I would have them in another week. This is over 3 weeks now. I get the gun back with a note saying it had a trigger job and they did do a very good one. They said they tested it and that was it. I didn't get the results! I did find out from my gun shop that there were numerous complaints about low seated primers on the CCI ammo so I figure that solved the lite strikes problem. The safety still was very loose feeling. I ran 170 rounds of Winchester hard ball through it with one failure to feed on the last round and a couple of hangups in the magazine. I was facing the prospect of having to start testing out good HPs and all of a sudden realized I WANT A REAL GUN!!! One that feeds ammo without fail, one that I don't have to worry about the safety not being where I left it and one I can bet my life on! If I add what I have in the original price of it to the cost to ship it back and the cost of just one mag I get within $80 of a Glock. I called Taurus the next day to see where my mags were and was told that they were now on back order and I was looking at another 4 weeks at least! I told them to cancel the order as I wouldn’t have the gun by then. Did I mention that they charged my credit card for them the first day I ordered them?. As I sit here writting this sad tail I am now 19oz lighter as the gun is now on consignment at my dealer and I will take a 25% loss at least (not counting shipping to Miami) but I will rise from this disaster a stronger wiser man with a G27 at my side. Thanks for listening and go easy on me I’m still real tender.
