Can anyone tell me why the Taurus 85 undercover with ported barrel, titanium barrel, cylinder and aluminum frame weighs 3 oz. more than the SW 342PD. I mean really what gives? This is confusing. Thanks.

I have a Total Titanium Model 85 38 special. Mine is the one that weighs 15 oz I believe. here it is....

I think the Taurus Ultra Lite model with the aluminum frame, and titanium barrel and cyclinder is a bit heavier than the S&W 342PD because the taurus is slightly bigger. Not much bigger.
Both are awesome guns though. Very light, fun to shoot, and great conversation pieces.

On the second thought I remembered something else, the S&W 342PD has a aluminum shrouded barrel while the Taurus UltraLite has a Titanium shrouded barrel. Remember, titanium IS actually just a tad heavier than aluminum, but where Titanium reigns supreme is in its outstanding corrosion resistance and overall durablity.
Like I said, either gun will be a great choice.
