Happy New Year everyone! It’s a new year and a new Poll! I am tying to get some non-bias data on how reliable that Taurus Ultra-Lite Revolvers are. I already tried to make one poll but, I think it was flawed because of the question I asked
( I don’t want to repeat the flawed question and confuse the poll ).

Please only answer the poll if you have or had any of the Taurus Ultra-Lite revolvers.
DO NOT answer the poll if you have or had a regular Taurus revolver, I believe this would throw off the data.
Please only vote only once however, If you have more than one Taurus Ultra –Lite revolver please vote as many times as you have Ultra-Lite revolvers.

Poll question: How many rounds have you fired with your Taurus Ultra-Lite and not had a problem or had a Problem?

1-2000 Rounds and I had NO Problem
1-2000 Rounds and I had a Problem / Problems
2000-4000 Rounds and I had NO Problems
2000-4000 Rounds and I had a Problem / Problems
4000-6000 Rounds and I had NO Problems
4000-6000 Rounds and I had a Problem /Problems
6000-8000 Rounds and I had NO Problems
6000-8000 Rounds and I had a Problem /Problems
More than 8000 Rounds and I had No Problems
More than 8000 Rounds and I had a Problem / Problems

I am torn between the Taurus 941 Ultra-Lite and the S&W 351PD Air Lite for my CCW. Hopefully this data can help someone else decide too.

I would edit your poll to read something like:

1-2000 Rounds and I had NO Problem
1-2000 Rounds before I had a Problem / Problems
2000-4000 Rounds and I had NO Problems
2000-4000 Rounds before I had a Problem / Problems
etc

It just helps make it clear at which stage the problems arose. Otherwise, someone could have fired 8000 rds but had problems every 500 from new, so which do they choose 1-2000 or 6-8000?

;)

Just a thought...

My Ultra-Lite® Taurus® revolver is a Mdl 85SS2UL 38 Special purchased new in 2007. I have over 10,000 rounds fired with no problems.

Good point James. However, they wont let me edit the poll after I post it. :/

You could ask the sub-forum mod(s) to do it for you.

Your poll, so your call.

Either way, I hope you get the info you want with as little irrelevant data as possible as this in one of those moderately contentious issues!!

That said, I've owned neither, so I will bow out now and leave you to it.
(although the S&W does look cool.... :D)

Thanks again James. Yes the S&W does look cool, but I am trying not get get emotionally attached and want to strictly go by the odds for a CCW.

How would I get a sub-forum mod(s) to do it for me?

Just say no....to the Taurus

I have had a handful of the Taurus Ultra-Lite revolvers in the past, I picked up one for my wife and one for myself. They were both 38 specials and got shot with standard 38 ammo, no +P or +p+ ammo. My weapon went first, I opened the safe to get it out to CC that day and when I opened it to confirm that it was hot and ready the cylinder and crane fell out of the gun and dropped onto the floor  -CENSORED--CENSORED--CENSORED-! Upon inspection I found the crane screw had stripped itself out, never took the gun apart or played with the screws ever it just stripped out the whole. I payed to ship it back to Taurus (on my dime) and after about 6-7 weeks I get my gun back and they had put an oversized screw into it to "fix" the problem. I ended up selling that gun and picking up a nice used S&W 638 to fill the role of CCW.

Fast forward about 6 months and my BIL, wife and I are out at a out door range shooting, my wife opens her Taurus Ultra-Lite to reload it and I'll be dammed if the same thing did not happen to her. After paying on my dime again to send back another quality revolver to Taurus for repair they performed the same repair (oversized screw) to fix the problem.

After having two Taurus and one semi fail/break (you all remember the Taurus PT145 frame cracking problem they had) I decided to pass on future Taurus weapons. I havent heard to many stories about the steel/stainless guns having problems but for me I quit, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

I would go with the S&W 351PD Air Lite you listed VS the Taurus, I also had a S&W 442 that I never had any problems with but let a friend talk me out of it because he needed a CW to carry. Good luck with your decision. YMMV but this was my experience with Taurus Ultra-Lite Revolvers, we never even had over 500 rounds through each gun.

Good post smee78. Thats why I made this poll specifically for the Taurus ultra-lite. I feel like almost any steel revolver would be reliable. But, when it comes to alloys I think that takes more expertise to make them reliable.

Oh make sure to vote 2x because you had 2 Taurus Ultra-lite revolvers. :)

Is there anyway I can get a forum moderator to change to options for the poll?

It should read.

1-2000 Rounds and NO Problems
1-2000 Rounds before I had a Problem / Problems
2000-4000 Rounds and NO Problems
2000-4000 Rounds before I had a Problem / Problems
4000-6000 Rounds and NO Problems
4000-6000 Rounds before I had a Problem /Problems
6000-8000 Rounds and I had NO Problems
6000-8000 Rounds before I had a Problem /Problems
More than 8000 Rounds and NO Problems
More than 8000 Rounds before I had a Problem / Problems

Thanks again for pointing that out James :D

I have had the ultralight model 85 38 special for ten years or more. I suppose I have shot somewhat over 1,000 rounds through it, though I don't keep a written record. It has never once malfunctioned. I have shot mostly mild reloads and factory target ammo through it, and occasionally some +P hollowpoints. It has a decent trigger and is more accurate than I expected.

I would buy another one, but doubt that I will ever wear it out. It still locks up nice and tight.

If you go to the main forum page with all the subforums listed, you'll see this, the Revolver sub-forum. If you follow that row, you should see the moderators for that board listed in bold. Choose one, right-click and select "Send PM".

In that private message you can detail what you would like done and where.

No probs so far....

I bought a used Ultra-Lite a few years ago. So far I have shot +p HP's and regular round nose, as well as my own reloads - mild semi wadcutters and wadcutters. I like it a lot, and it has performed without a glitch. I cannot tell you the exact round count, but probably around 250-300 for me.
