Taurus Tracker....comments from owners?

I'm considering trading or selling a Taurus Model 669 (ported .357 6 shot SS) and going for a Tracker.
I love the way the Tracker looks, but I'd like to hear from folks who have them and their comments, good or bad (with Taurus, I expect both).
This revolver will be for target shooting or plinking mostly. I do keep the 669 close at hand as a house gun (yeah, I know about the potential concerns with ported barrels...but a 12 Ga. pump is the primary...).
I am more interested in the stainless guns. So...
Has it been reliable?
Has it been back to the factory?
What ammo have you used in it?
What was your cost and where (state) did you buy it? (PA replies especially welcome)
If you had to do it over again, would you still buy it?

A little background: I've owned 5 Taurus revolvers (two CH85's (sold); 669, 607 and an 85UL). Two have given me problems (669 and 85UL) that required trips to the factory (now both guns are better then new and very reliable. The 85UL is my primary carry gun.

I bought one and never fired it. Sold it, and then wished I hadn't. It had the nicest action I've felt on a revo in a long time. It was a .357 Mag.

I just picked up the stainless version yesterday. One nice looking revolver!!!!
I don't know how it shoots yet. I've work to do today...probably try it out this week sometime.
Why'd you sell yours?

I had a friend who was an FFL dealer. He couldn't get what I wanted, and suggested that. I felt like I had to (even though I didn't) so I bought it, turned around and sold it without telling him. I really wish I would've just hung on to it. Please tell me how it shoots!

I'll do that...might be a week.
I want to put at least 200 rounds thru it ASAP to see if it's going to be reliable.

I had a Tracker for about six months, bought it when they came out last fall. Overall my impressions are:

Accurate: 2-3" groups @ 15 yards without a bench.

Nice finish

Grips were OK, but I would have prefered a more conventional grip--Like Uncle Mike's--rather than the ribbed grips.

No problems in the 300 rounds put through it.the SS matte finish seemed prone to picking up scratches.

I bought it as a house gun and my wife felt comfortable with it. We shot mostly .38 FMJ or JHP+P (Proload) and recoil was modest. The .357 full house loads still provided lots of muzzle rise even with the porting. My .357 load of choice was the Proload 125 gr. Tac Lite--1150fps vs. 1500 from the full house--much easier to control.

I bought a Makarov a month or so back and when my wife shot it she said "this is the one I'll shoot".
Oh, well, after thinking about it a while, i decided I to get an 9 mm autoloader--what I wanted in the first place--sold the Tracker and bought a P95.

I like the P95 a lot but at this point I'm not as accurate as with the tracker; the trigger is lighter on the P95 but the pull is longer and I 'm sure it's messing up my fix on the target.

At end, the 627 Tracker is a nice revolver but you might want to consider some replacement grips.

Handled the stainless and Ti. this week. Really nice feel to them! I am waiting to see how the .41 mags are as that is my caliber. I have the 415 snub and it does very well with the Silvertips.

Yeah...I know...
I'm not sure about these grips either.

But I think these will polish out easily

I do expect more climb with the Tracker then the Model 669 due to the weight. The Tracker is 24 oz, the 669 was almost 40 oz.
Although many prefer a non ported gun for home defense, I did use the 669 for that purpose (secondary to a 12 gauge pump). I will use the Tracker for home defense.

Thank you for your response!

I have a Taurus 44 spl Ti with the same ribber grips. IMO these grips are great, absorbing most of the recoil. I guess it depends on what you like, or are used to.

Well, we put about 200 rounds through my new Tracker.
No problems!!!
Very accurate!!!
Great sights!
More recoil then the 669 I sold to buy the gun. However the 669 weighed almost twice what the Tracker weighs (40 oz. vs. 24 oz.)
As far as the ribber grips...not sure yet. My buddy loved them. I prefer a more "hand filling" grip, but they do a nice job absorbing any residual recoil. I think more practice to accomodate this style grip will do the trick (by the way, I was also shooting a Glock 19C with the Hogue grips which do fill my hand nicely...this may have biased me somewhat).
I think Taurus has a real winner in the Tracker!
