new to this forum, and looking at 1 of these with a 4" barrel. not to sure i like the moon clip, but other than that i'm looking for other concerns. thank you for your time

before all the taurus bashers get here, I just want to say that neither myself or my grandfather have had any trouble with taurus products

I have a taurus 44 special 2" snub that I have had for 12 yrs and no problems

I like it!!!

I will assume that the Tracker uses the same 5-shot moonclip as my Taurus Model 455, which is a 2-inch snubnose.

Those clips are thinner than the original clip design from the Colt and S&W Model 1917 days. Which were the clips that led to the design of the .45 Auto Rim (.45 AR) cartridge.

End result is that I cannot use .45 AR in my Taurus. The rims are too thick and the cylinder will not close.

I suspect, but do not know, that the Tracker will also not be able to use that cartridge. Whether that is disturbing to you, only you know.

Now, in general I am happy with every Taurus revolver I've owned but I've seen a couple for sale that were obviously flawed, as in crooked trigger and crooked front sight, but not on the same gun  And I like my .44 Mangle-um snubbie Tracker. Won't be firing any more magnums in that one, no I won't. For stout .44 Specials it is a great gun.

Oh, and a hint about .45 ACP wheelguns. Best if you don't shoot steel cased ammo, as in the surplus WW2 production (which are corrosive primed) or the modern Wolf ammo. The extraction is a challenge.

Why? .45 auto....in a revolver? I guess I get it...but don't bend the clips, you will never get them flat again. Just buy one in .357 or .44 and skip the headache.

thanks guys. just something i'm kicking around. cheaperthandirt has new moon clips cheap enough. the weapon i'm looking at has a 4" barrel so i can use it for whatever. eventually i will get a .44 mag

I just bought a second one at a gun show. The moon clips are still available from Taurus at a reasonable price. Both of mine are accurate and fun to shoot lightweight revolvers. For a self defense gun they work just fine and the full moon clips make for very fast reloading. They are not hunting handguns, I have other revolvers in other calibers to fill that role.

I carry a Titanium Tracker in 45acp for backcountry adventures.
No problems, very accurate.
The moons are kind of flimsy, will bend in your pocket.
I bought speedstrips for 41rem and the rim is perfect for those.
I replaced the ribber grip with a Hogue Combat and like it better.
Good handgun for lightweight open carry.
No experience with stainless or blued models.
