Ok, CDNN has these for $299 and I am very interested in this firearm. I am wanting a .45 ACP and I like revolvers a lot, so this definately fits the bill. I would like any information and reviews. I have read Jeff's review from Gunblast and it doesn't tell me a lot (no offense, but all of his reviews are positive. I really would like to know about the durability of the weapon, the hammer pull weight, trigger pull weight, and overall pleasure or lack thereof from an owner with experience with this particular gun. Also, I have read that you do not need the moon clips to fire it, they just aid in extraction and loading. With this in consideration, what keeps the "rimless" cartridge from sinking down into the cylinder?

Any information is greatly appreciated.

I presume the cartridge haedspaces on the mouth just as it does in an automatic. Modern S&W .45 ACP revolvers headspace this way, but the ones that I have had left more headspace when used this way than when moon clips were used.
On older Colt, and (I believe) S&W the charge holes were drilled straight through and moon or half-moon clips must be used.
 
Can't provide much info because I haven't had the opportunity to shoot mine yet. It does headspace on the case mouth. Fit and finish of mine is excellent. Lockup is better than my Ruger GP100, but of course I haven't shot it yet, so I don't know how that will hold up. Trigger is better than my GP100(been dry firing the Taurus 455 a lot with snap caps.) Trigger is MUCH better than my Taurus 94. Ribber grip feels like it's going to do a great job with the recoil.

I got mine about three weeks ago from Davidson's. I really like the gun. Lockup feels good and yes, the cases headspace on the mouth. You might want to look into aftermarket moonclips though, as the Taurus issue clips are pretty flimsy, and they let the rounds wobble a bunch. The clips are so thin that you can actually stack two of them together and fit them into the rim of the cartridge. I haven't shot mine yet either, as I have had no free time.:( I also had a problem with the red sticker that serves as a front sight insert peeling off out of the box. I didn't mind though, as I filled the spot with white out.

ps. The grips are comfortable, but they feel kinda squirrely in my hands. I am looking for replacement wood grips as I think they will pretty the gun up nice.

I had one and was satisfied mostly. Things I didn't like: can't use autorim cartridges, DA trigger pull does not compare to a Smith, but does improve with use and the shape of the trigger, was too wide for comfortable DA shooting. The SA trigger was fine,but I shoot almost all DA, the Taurus moon clips are good, better than Smith & Wesson clips as far as loading and unloading and I thought the finish and fit were good.

The gun is no Smith 625 (its replacement) but for the money is a good value.
 
Mine was from Davidson's, too. Haven't ever had any problems with my Taurus 94, but people's complaints about Tauruses nudged me into buying from Davidson's for the extra warranty. Cost a bit more than CDNN. Almost bought mine from CDNN and would have if I hadn't gotten one from Davidson's.

Auto Rim

You can also shoot the 45AR cartridge without clips. They have a rim just like any regular revolver cartridge. Brass is available from midwayusa.com for about $11.00 per hundred. Dies for 45 ACP work but you need a different $4 shall holder. Powder charges are generally abput .2 grains lower than a 56 ACP depending on which manual you use.

Haven't bout commercial ammo for years as I consider it a reloaders cartridge.

The Tracker will not chamber the .45 AR. The rims are too thick and the cylinder will not close.
 
Yeah, the autorim won't work because the rim is too thick. On that THR thread linked here though someone had the idea of trimming .45LC brass to .45ACP length and said it worked fine for him. Seems like a pretty good idea to me.
 
Tracker - I love mine!

7.62 - I have had my 2 in. Tracker for about a year - ran close to 1000 rounds through it. It is my preferred carry gun so I practice with it a lot. The factory trigger pull was pretty bad - it spent some time with a local gunsmith who improved it quite a bit and it is now acceptable - not as good as either of my S & W 25-2s but they have had extensive work and nothing seems their equal. But the Tracker is a great buy - Steve at Ranch sells a much stronger moon clip which I use for "carry" but the Taurus ones are great for range use. The factory grips not only felt funny but are rather large. Taurus sells a smaller hard rubber grip with finger grooves which I like much better for carry - conceals better. They are, however, much less absorbent of recoil and after 100 rounds your hand knows it!

It is sensitive about your reload taper crimp setting so I check each round in the cylinder prior to loading them in the moon clips. I use a 3/8 in. hardwood dowel to unload the empties. The factory "ported" barrel causes the sights to "dirty" pretty rapidly. The 2 inch gun has fixed sights while the 4 inch comes with adjustable sights - which I wish were on the 2 inch!

Biggest problem for me has been obtaining a good holster. No one has the mold for the Taurus but it seems to work well in a Smith K frame holster. Cylinder is .120 larger in dia. but in leather that is not an issue.

Buy it if you like the .45 ACP and a revolver. I looked at the Smith 325 but at twice the $$ could not bring myself to buy it.

I bought a tracker in 45acp with a 4 inch barrel from CDNN - and I love it - got tired of putting out a tarp and/or trying to find my brass all the time - since I reload. I found the fit and finnish to be excellant. It shoots accurately and is comfortable to shoot with the ribber grips - more so than my 1911's. I feel it is an great value, worth more than the 299 price. Hope you enjoy yours also. Merry Christmas and shoot safe.
