Taurus Titanium Revolvers - any advise?

I am considering purchasing a Taurus Titanium revolver in .38 spl to carry concealed. Does anyone have any experience with this revolver who can offer some advise?

I looked in the archives and found several threads from the first of the year, and several said they were going to purchase one. I thought I might throw this out again to see what you have found or heard since then.

I have also considered the titanium in .44 spl or 45 LC, but this would add additional weight. I want something that I can comfortably carry all the time. Any thoughts on this?

I find the Smiths to be smaller and lighter than their Taurus counterparts.

While I haven't shot the Taurus, I can tell you with good certainty that it can't shoot much worse than the Smiths. They're a bear to shoot. So light, with a good amount of kick. Dream to carry, nightmare to shoot.

Check 'em both out, buy whichever you like better.

The Taurus Titaniums (Titania?) are fantastic shooters, but the ones coming out over the last year or so seem to have some QC problems (loose cylinders, binding lockwork). Taurus does have a lifetime warranty on their work, so if you get a bad one, send it back and they'll fix it for free.

Caveat: their wait time is presently running 4 weeks. :(

Also, the Taurus grips are nice.
I think Taurus designed the grips to lessen perceived recoil. The grips on the Ti .38's are "smooth" but the grips on the larger caliber Ti's are "ribbed". Works well.

I've had the 85UL (Ti Barrel Shroud and cylinder) for about a year. This is my primary CCW due to it's small size and light weight.
Initially, I had a light strike problem which required a trip back to the factory. I would put 200-300 rounds through any Taurus I purchased ASAP.
Since then, it's been a very reliable gun. I normally put standard .38 Spl rounds thru it with an occasional cylinder of "+P's". I don't think a steady diet of "+P's" is good for any gun, but especially detrimental to an aluminum framed one.
I would buy another Taurus Titanium or Ultra Lite in a second...

I have a 617T. That's the 357 version with the ribbed grips. Most people who pick it up have immediate positive comments on the grips. In SA the trigger is very light & crisp. In DA it is LOOOOOng and heavy. Mine has a slight 'catch' in DA right before let-off.

As for the recoil...this is my wife's favorite to shoot when loaded with 38's. She's just getting started, so recoil sensitive. This past weekend was the first time she fired it with 357 and claimed it to be tolerable. Shooting full load 357 WILL make your wrist sore in less than 50 rounds but in SA shooting 357, even with a 2" ported barrel, that sucker is more accurate than I am. It will consistently print 2" groups at 7 yds with a pair of old eyes and shaky hands.

andohbytheway...the 357 version is 7 rounds!

Can you tell I like it?

I have the 450T (.45 Colt) version, and I really like it a lot, and it's plenty accurate. Recoil is addictive, but not abusive.

I looked at an 85U last night but went with a used S&W model 60 instead. I didn't care for the porting on the Taurus.

I've got the Taurus 85UL stainless, no Ti, but a GREAT gun! Sorry your shop didn't have the 85UL without the ports ArmySon! I've not seen any differences between my 85UL and my Dad's Smithy to warrant the extra cost.
