Taurus Titanium Revolver Reliability Probems Again

Today my dealer will send my Model 85 Ti back to the factory for the third time. It came back yesterday following repair of a trigger return problem. On the 37th round the gun did it again: the trigger remained in the back position. My dealer is furious because he will pay shipping again. I am also mad because I bought this thing in March and it has never worked reliably. Both of my other titanium Taurus revolvers have also gone back to the factory for failure to cycle in double action. What the "H-E double hockeysticks" is going on here?

Suggest a complete replacement or a refund. I've read that Taurus is pretty sensitive to user complaints so they'll probably pull a new one off the shelf and give it to you.

They better be looking to their marketplace; with S&W choking and Colt getting out of the game, they and Ruger are probably the biggest of the few revolver makers left.

I have a Taurus 606 357 ported stainless. Never had a problem with it. As a matter of fact, I love that revolver.

I agree with David. You got a lemon.
See if Taurus will give you a new pistol. My wife has a Total Ti in .38 special that hasn't given her any problems at all.
I'm thinking of getting one myself. (But in a different color.)

Mendacity is the system we live in.

A couple of years ago I bought a M85 SS CH Taurus. I loved the way the gun handled and the trigger. I liked it better than the two S&W J frames I owned. However it wasn't reliable in that it would misfire once or twice in 50-75 rounds, factory loads or handloads. I sent it back several times. Finally I asked for a refund or at least a replacement. It took several months and many letters and finally a telephone call and a letter to Bob Morrison to get it replaced. I was so disgusted that I intended never to buy or own another Taurus. They always worked on it without any question, but couldn't fix it. Since the S&W sellout and Bob Morrison's stand on that issue I have relented and would buy another Taurus if they made a light weight hammerless SS 38 Spl. without ports. However, they don't. They will honor their warranty. In view of the cost of shipping a handgun now, however, the cost of shipment could run into the cost of the gun if you had my experience. Maybe they will pay for the shipping. Springfield will. Best of luck, Jerry

scooter71,
A LOADED GUN? What if the flash set it off? Seriously, thanks for the reply. Sometimes I use a Barami Hip Grip. That dictates a concealed hammer gun. Maybe they will come out with a non-ported hammerless model. I have a S&W 642 and just thought I needed a second lw revolver. Thanks again. Jerry

Scoter71,

I thought those ultra-lites were made from an alloy or aluminum. That's how they made them "ultra-lite"... by using a different metal.

I'd just stick with Taurus's heavier guns... there just seem to be fewer horror stories about them. Look into the 605... great gun.

anyways,
Ben

I bought an all stainless steel model without ports (looks very much like your photo) because the dealer had it in his case for several months. Went I went back looking for another one (wit a concealed hammer), all of them were ported and he told me that this is the way that they now come. An e-mail to Taurus verified this.

They REALLY need to build one S&W 649 style, i.e. instead of just filing off the back of the hammer they shroud it, just in case anyone wants to make a single-action shot.

Battler.
