I have read a number of posts questioning the quality of Taurus revolvers. I thought sharing my experience might help someone else. When I first saw the Taurus .45 ACP 2 inch revolver I wanted one. I thought it would make a great carry gun, but I procrastinated until I heard Taurus had discontinued that item. A local dealer found me one about a year ago. Out of the box the trigger was pretty stiff, but was not "scratchy"; just stiff. The gun came with 5 of the moon clips - they did not seem very sturdy but loaded and unloaded easily. I liked the more secure feeling of solid moon clips, so I called Steve at Ranch Industries and ordered some from him. The Ranch moon clips hold the ammo much "tighter" but are definitely harder to load and unload. For all of the moon clips I use the same 8 inch piece of 1/2 inch hardwood dowel that I used for my 25-2 clips. The six shot clips are much easier to unload!
After about 200 rounds fired, I took the gun to a local gunsmith for some trigger work and spring kit. Cost was $80 but it was a good investment.
The trigger, while not a good as on my S & W revolvers, is much better. I've run about 800 rounds through the gun now. I love it! No malfunctions, accuracy is acceptible at under 15 yards which is as far out as I shoot it.
I replaced the original factory grips (the fuzzy feeling ones) with a pair I ordered from Taurus (wanted Pachmayer with finger grooves but could not find any) which have finger grooves, are smaller than the original grips and are hard rubber. The gun conceals better but shooting a 100 rounds at a time stresses my hand. Control seems about the same, even with my little finger hanging off the grip.
Only problem with the gun is the factory porting results in the front sight paint becoming too black to see after about 20 shots. My only regret is that I did not buy two! Great gun for the money.
