I picked up my RB from layaway yesterday. I did a quick cleaning last night and I may take it to the range this weekend.

I sure do like the looks of the Taurus RB. I know Taurus doesn't have a good reputations but so far I have not been disappointed. My 44 RB shoots really good and hopefully this 454 will also.

BTW, this RB is the 5" barrel. It's a bit lighter than the 6"...

I've read the same about Taurus on here, but I have to say I've never had any issues with them. My .454 RB's recoil definitely took some getting used to, though...an absolute hand cannon! The gun itself is great, IMO, as well as my Taurus snubby .357 and it makes me wonder why people have had bad luck with them. I'm figuring it's just like any other make and the occasional bad egg is bound to sneak through QA.

I agree with you 100 percent. MY first RB is the 44 Mag showed below with my newly acquired 454. I shot 200 rounds of Remington and the leverrevolution from Hornady without any problems. It shoots really good but kind of heavy that's why I got the 5" 454. The porting really helps a lot with the recoil.

I'm planning to get my first .454 soon. I have just about made up my mind on the Super Redhawk, based upon it's reputation for strength, quality, and reliability. As far as looks goes, I give the nod to the Raging Bull. Those are some sweet looking RBs you have there. I just got my first Taurus ever about 3 weeks ago......an older "well broken in" model 66 .357. I'm definitely not seeing any of the "Taurus issues" that you can read about on any of the forums. It's a great old gun with a wonderfully smooth trigger pull that is as nice as any S+W model 66 trigger I've seen. Because I was pleasantly surprised by this old Taurus, I am reconsidering my desision to shy away from the Raging Bull .454. In my opinion it looks better than the Super Redhawk, and if the quality is as good as my old Taurus 66, I won't hesitate to buy a Raging Bull .454. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts after you shoot your RB .454 a bit.

thayallhurt,

I've shot a super blackhawk with 8 3/8 barrel in 44 mag when I was in Alaska three rounds and I developed a flinch, it kicked like a mule. It took me a while but I've learned to not flinched anymore after a lot of practice. The first time I fired my RB 44 I thought it would kick like the SBH but to my surprise the recoil is not at all that bad. I'll admit I've shot only 200 rounds all together and I haven't been back to the range. The porting in the RB really helps a lot with the recoil.

I was going to shoot this weekend but my wife hand me a bunch of honey do's... I have to set my priorities or else She'll take away my gun buying previleges. LOL... Anyway I soon as I get a chance I'll let you know what I think about my RB 454 Casull... Thanks for responding..

I think the RBs are good looking guns, not as good as an x-frame s&w but not near as pricey. I'd like to have a 5-6" RB or RJM

MrDontPlay,

Yeah, I'm with you... The quality are not the same between the two manufacturers. But I like the affordability of the RB and it shoots better than I do. LOL....

The .454 is one heck of a round! Even though I am a Ruger nut and have a .480 Ruger, the .454 is that much more. Coogs.

Hhmmm....Nice gun. I've been thinking about something in that caliber.

As far as the Taurus brand....I've have access to 5 Taurus pistols/revolvers and 1 Rossi over the last 15 years or so. I've only experienced a couple of problems over that time, and the problems were fixed with a couple of minor adjustments. None of these firearms have been inside a Taurus facility since each was first sent out into the world.--Patrice

Patrice,

My first Taurus was a PT-101P.. I bought it at Academy a couple of years ago as my first centerfire semi-auto gun. I took it to the range and fired 100 rounds without a problem. A month later took it shooting again and was just having fun when the magazine just fell out as I was aiming to shoot. Anyway I took it to Academy and they sent it to Taurus for repair. I got it back a month later and it was all fixed. I've had 500 rounds since then and no problem. Love the lifetime warranty.

My Raging Bull 44 only have 200 rounds through it and really like the mild recoil. I figured maybe I'd go up and try the 454 Casull. This is the biggest caliber pistol I'll ever buy. I like the style of the RB and its porting that's why I went for the RB. To each his own I guess. I haven't fired my Casull yet. I've done a lot of research and watched youtube video. I've seen a petite lady on Youtube firing the long barreled RB and she seem to have control. Hopefully this weekend, weather permitting, I might take out my Casull shooting.... v/r
