So I don't know how popular "Defensive Edge Training and Consulting, Inc." is but I was looking for training in MN and found their classes listed over at ar15.com when reading through the Pistol classes I find this:

"ABSOLUTELY NO" Taurus, inexpensive High Power copies, High Point, Jennings, Bryco, Lorcin, etc. Any questions please ask.

Why would Taurus be listed in here? Are they SO bad the instructor BANS them in his classes?

I always laugh at certain signs I see in random places that people think ridiculous.... but if you stop and think... if there is a sign for it... someone did it... :D

Pick up a Taurus side by side with whatever firearm its attempting to copy.... and you will notice the difference in quality. The fitting is generally bad on them, not finished as nice, not as solid, made cheaper with cheaper parts.

People are going to get mad that I am flaming their beloved Econo Pistol Tauri, but realistically I am a firm believer in you pay for what you get, if they are so cheap than they are obviously cutting corners somewhere to keep the price down. Most gun smiths wont even touch them and good luck with their customer service, two shops near me wont even stock them anymore after dealing with their service.

I work at a retail store selling firearms, when holding them side by side with the gun they are copying you definately notice the difference.

Personally my life is worth the 150$ more...

That being said the PT1911 is probably their nicest made gun, but I still spent the extra $150 and got a Springfield. I almost got a PT1911 for a range toy and a 1911 to tinker and mess around with customizing, but figured money was better spent on a new Sig to CCW.

As far as why they will not allow them in the class, I'd say bad experiences personally by them.

somehow I'm reminded of the "routine" we used to give Army personnel before we started training them on PM for various equipment. It went like this...

"Okay folks, Here inside the front cover you are going to see three symbols that will appear through out the book.

Caution Symbol - This means that if you do something incorrectly YOU may damage the equipment.

Warning Symbol - This means that if you do something incorrectly the EQUIPMENT may injure YOU!

Danger Symbol - This means that by not following procedure, someone has been permanently injured, maimed, or KILLED.

And be aware that this is an ARMY PM manual, no lawyers were involved in writing it, no pretend scenarios were imagined, if you see a CAUTION, WARNING, or DANGER symbol next to a procedure it is there because SOMEONE HAS ACTUALLY SCREWED UP at that point and we've got the photos to prove it!"

Somehow I get the feeling that those guns are listed because they screwed up (many times) and I'd bet that "Defensive Edge Training and Consulting, Inc." probably has the photos (or at least the insurance claims) to prove it.

(P.S. Wow that page has a frightening number of misspellings/typos, and the grammar and punctuation are a mess!)

Ok, I have a couple of Taurus revolvers, and some S&W.

The Taurus 605 (5-shot .357), I'm impressed with. I've never heard of anyone having a problem of any type with one. Outside of that.... buy S&W or Ruger. HKfn9 is correct.

As far as semi-auto's, I've seen so many people have issues and problems, that I've stayed away from them. Now, did they have more than anyone else ? Not necessarily.. heard just as many 'issues' with other brands. Personally, I"ve had problems with 3 NEW guns that were Springfield, KelTec and Taurus. I'm ready to throw the KelTec and Taurus away. The Springfield, they fixed and has been an excellent gun since then, and the XD never had any issue (I can throw anything at it and it never fails).

the "Three" gun Mfgr that I've never had a problem with one of their guns has been.... S&W (revolvers), Beretta (anything 9 mm or more), Springfield (1911's, XD's, etc) only 1 and it was fixed quickly.

I was in th egun shop today looking at used revolvers. I commented that new was a bit expensive for me. The guy said I should go to the other shop and get one of their Taurus'. I said I had heard they were no good. He said they are decent and come with a good lifetime warranty. I asked if they could handle full power loads and he said they could. But if you go full power very often you would need to utilize that warranty.

Lets see, I've had a Kel-tec P11 since 1990, no failures of any kind with this striker fired dao auto.Ive had a Taurus 24/7 Pro Ds, striker fired, for 18 months, no failures of any kind with this striker fired pistol.I have a Hi-point 995 carbine with an ATI stock which will outshoot the Beretta Storm at 1/3 the price.I had a $1000 Thompson S/a 45acp, that never fired one stick mag without something breaking,Kahr wouldn't even furnish replacement parts for things that broke.Took a $250 loss to get rid of it.3 firing pins and two out of spec recoil springs.

Went to one of my local gun shops and he had a Taurus in the display. I asked to see it and he informed me that he had some pictures that I should look at first. He had at least 3 different sets of pictures of that model that went kaboom. He also told me that he would be selling it to a shop that regularly sold Taurus. He wanted nothing to do with it. It was there to remind him to sell it out on Monday. Shortly after that I found that my daughter had bought one... She had it for about a month before she sold it for a different model... I never told her I just waited a short time to find out what she thought of it. I guess she's got a good eye and some common sense after all!:D

Personal experiences - no second hand info. Over the last 40+ years I have owned many dozens of pistols including Browning, SIG, S&W, H&K, Kahr, SA, Colt, Ruger, KelTec, and yes, 3 Tauruses. Other than minor break in issues, I have had problems with three of those guns. One was my first pistol, a Hi-Power I bought in 1966. A Navy armorer spent some time and fixed it, and it still works. The other two were Tauruses. Both had serious FTFeed problems and were sent back to Taurus. When they were returned after six + weeks, they still had the same problem. I sold both.

That said, my first Taurus, a 24/7 c 45 DS has performed flawlessly for over 800 rounds. Because of the two problem guns, I had over 500 rounds through it before I trusted it, but I do now.

I've been a member on Taurus armed for a couple of years, one kaboom of sorts, a Judge where the barrel sheared off at the frame. Explain to me how Taurus outsells S&W, Ruger and Glock combined.600,000 in 2009 Their 92fs is the pistol of choice for half dozen countries army's. They modified the Beretta design, put the safety in the frame rather than on the slide. In head to head competition they beat the Beretta.Of course they did buy the Beretta factory in Brazil, spent 20 million in upgrades and kept all the former Beretta engineers, smiths and assembly people.BTW less than 2% are ever returned to the factory.Their latest the 709 Slim had extraction problems, the extractor was redesigned and they opened a repair center in Miami.Repair turnaround time on these is 7-10 days.Want a kaboom get a Glock 40, heres one.

There have been hundreds like that, but Glock has never accepted the blame, although the barrel design leaves far too much of the cartridge unsupported.
