Taurus pump .22 report

Just picked one of these up last week and got to the range with it.

Very boring rifle. If you want something to constantly work on and fiddle with, this ain't it.

Had my Marlin Mounty along for comparison.

Both rifles consistantly grouped inside of two inches at 25y with Remington bulk ammo. The Marlin can use any .22 ammo, while the Taurus is limeted to .22 LR and .22 Long CB caps. Shorts will not feed through the pump.

Clay pidgeons to 50 yards were toast and function was flawless. I would have liked better sights, but the design precludes it. The safety on top works (yuck) but can be ignored. I ran over 500 rounds through it.

Glad I got it - $209 plus tax out the door.

I purchase a Taurus 62 recently as well. I'm still working on a brick of Blazer .22lr. The accuracy from mine is horrible (shoots 8 inches high at 25 yds). I shoot better with the crappy ruger revolver they rent at the range. Can't figure it out, the sights need to be replaced ASAP thats for sure.

Art - it's a replica of one of the Winchester gallery guns. Has a exposed hammer, but I have no idea of the correct model (number) it replicates.

ATeaM - try different ammo before spending any money on the rifle. The cart and the horse are transposed in the world of .22's. With a centerfire you may have a load you tune the rifle for, with a rimfire it pays to find a load(s) that the rifle likes. I have had rimfires that grouped some brands in sub-MOA, other brands were best measured in feet. Same rifle, just very picky. Try a selection from Wal-Mart, Remington, Federal, CCI. You can get a serious selection of diferent types for under ten bucks.. FWIW, I have had good luck with CCI in several different rifles.

It is a copy of the winchester 62 hence its model designation of taurus 621. the 721 is the 22 mag version. Tang sites, scope mounts and a case for when it is disasembles as well as speed loading tubes will be comming out soon. I bought the stainless version. It is a great gun for the money. My real 62 will not suffer feild abuse anymore.

Taurus pump rifle

Purchased 2 of these since the first of this year. Both are the stainless steel carbine versions. Nice compact carbine and a "take-down" feature for excellent portability. Ideal for back-packing, B.O.B., and travel in car trunk.

Upon firing the first Taurus pump carbine, after a minor adjustment, accuracy was excellent at 25 yards. Beyond that sights are a limiting factor. Have not fired the second carbine. I am considering the installation of a long-eye relief scope, which would by necessity be mounted over the barrel. Maybe a tang mounted peep sight would be worthwhile(?).

Yes, they are limited to .22LR ammo, but since I don't shoot .22Longs or .22Shorts it does not matter.

Let's face it, the bolt mounted safety sux. Any number of other ideas would have been better. This safety feature is but a cheap short cut to repeal bottom feeding lawyers.

Gizmo, I'm already on top of the ammo situation, just kinda lost interest in shooting it lately I quess. I haven't cleaned it, EVER, which might be a determining factor as well.

Any information on how to tighten up the slide action or where I can locate new sights/scope would be much apreciated.

Ateam, the manual that came with the rifle advises not cleaning the bore, so your in good shape. If it really bugs you, try sending it back. I did that with a PT-22 and was very pleased with the service. I'd give them a shot at it prior to spending more money.
