Taurus PT99 hammer breaks

So, I yanked out my PT-99 for carry yesterday, and when I was going to holster it, I noticed a crack in/chunk missing from the back of the hammer. I didn't carry it, and stripped the pistol, removing the hammer. I didn't order the parts from Numrich until I figured out how to reinstall the hammer, and I am awaiting them now.

Anyone ever have this happen? It's a stainless PT-99AF, the old style with no de-cocker. Is the de-cocker hammer the same as the non-d? Numrich had two listed, one as "Hammer, Blue", and one as simply "Hammer". Different part no's. The blue one they had, the other was out of stock. I ordered the blued one, as mine is blue anywho.

What a booger to disassemble and reassemble. I think I prefer a 1911... this is similar, but there are roll pins holding EVERYTHING together. Regular pins seem to drift in and out a lot easier, but those roll pins...yick.

I guess I'm just sort of sharing. I called Taurus, and left a message, but they have never in five years called me back. Their customer service is so bad I consider it non-existent. Their products are usually okay at a good price point, but when they have broken, I don't ever have any reason to try and work with them - they are utterly disinterested in helping me. Ever.

Can I weld this thing back together and cold-blue it?

Any thoughts?

WOW. I have had to call Taurus twice (both my stupid fault). They answered the first one. The called back the next morn on the 2nd time. I have had no problems at all with my Tauruses. (except for me losing stuff)

As for welding it, If you (or a friend) can weld well, go for it. The worst that can happen is you crack it again. If you are a good welder, you won't have that problem. I'd recommend tig. I don't know if hammers are heat treated, but use common sense and re-treat if needed.

Screw Taurus. They haven't even called to see what's wrong with my gun.

I put a new hammer in it - dropped right in. Pretty painless. I love Numrich.

I'd say get rid of the Taurus & buy something else. If the hammer can break fo nothing what would you do if something happens during a SD/HD scenario since you carry it as well

Everything breaks, friend.
They bought the Beretta tooling and factory. It should be the same as a Beretta, I would think.

Still, it may be retired soon.

Hammer spring broke in my PT-92 after about 1500 rounds . Sent it back to Fla and the post office lost it. Long story short they fixed it and had it back in to me in about a month. I have heard horror stories about Taurus but I have nothing but good to say about their warranty service.

Bully for you, sir. I do not know what I have done wrong, but something is not going right with our communication.

I've left about fourteen messages, both with live people and on their voicemail, for a week. This was over a month ago. These people couldn't tell me the proper way to safely carry this gun (no decocker), and STILL have not contacted me about my gun's cracked hammer. (my messages state clearly that I am having a safety issue with my gun).

This is company, clearly, who does not need my money.

Before someone jumps in and tells me how backlogged all the gunmakers are, I offer you this: If you are that busy... hire more people! Even if they just called me and said, "Look, we're getting to you - it'll be two months.", fine, so be it. All I needed was for them to drop a hammer in an envelope, and they still have not made an effort to do that.

So, if they don't wan't to keep up their end of the warranty, fine. Springfield will, Ruger will, and I am willing to bet Smiff will, too.

This is a total crock. So, each one of my little dollars is a vote. And I ain't voting Taurus anymore.
