Taurus PT92

Hello all I have been lurking here for about a month now and finally decide to post. Here goes.

I am really getting the itch to buy a Taurus PT92 , not really sure why but I have held a couple in the gun shops and really liked the feel.....wanted to get the opinion of some owner/shooters of this weapon...

Also recently purchased a NAA Guardian .380 and am really happy with this gun....300 rounds and not one problem

Thanks in advance and happy shooting
:)

My first gun was a PT99AF (Adj. sighted version of 92). I had over 8000 rounds through it when I parted with it and not a single malfunction. It was very accurate also. The only reason I got rid of it was a 3rd gen Smith caught my eye. In '95, I bought a PT92 Police Special that I still have. This one has only had about 1000 rounds through it, but no malfunctions and it is every bit as accurate as my old 99.

I also have a Beretta 92. I paid nearly $300 more for it than I did for my 92. The Beretta is noticably smoother. Finish is only slightly better.

All in all, I can highly recommend the Taurus PT92. It is a very good value for the money. The Millenium series is another story.

Have you fired it yet?

The Taurus PT92 is a very nice handgun, especially for the price. By that I mean that you can spend 60% more and get a Sig, HK, etc. (all excellent handguns) but that is a lot of money. I have owned a PT92 for over 15 years. I won't even consider selling it because it is one of my only really hi-cap mag handguns. I don't take it to the range every trip but mine has probably 2000+ rounds through it with only a handful of stove pipe FTE. Those I attributed to ammo issues. I usually only carry the PT92 occasionally in winter weather because it is a large frame handgun. I do enjoy shooting it. My 20 year old son has been shooting it also on the rare occassions when he is around to go shooting with me. He fires it because he will hopefully need to qualify with a similar handgun one of these days for the military. I have added Pachmayr grips to mine and I do wish it had night sights. One of these days I'll part with the money. Before you actually buy anything I strong recommend that you spend a few dollars and rent a few different handguns at a local range. Have fun with your handgun selection and Be Safe.

dragon,

Get the 92/99. Great design, frame mounted safety, light recoiling round, sturdy and accurate. A classic design?

I put the rubber Pachmyer grip on mine (had to trim off a little at the safety) and while making the grip a little thicker, makes it even better IMHO, handling handgun.

Never a hiccup.

The only 9mm handgun I own that I shoot more is the Glock 19. That particular Taurus Design is well thought out and manufactured.

Pt92

I would like to echo all of the positive comments on the Pt 92. I have a Pt 99 and have owned it since '93. Only drawback to the pistol is that my wife likes to shoot it.

I've had a PT99AFS for over a decade now and couldn't be happier. Extremely reliable plus you can go Condition 1 (aka Cocked and Locked) !!:D

i have a pt92 at first i was a little iffy about it but after what i have read it seems like a fine gun. i havent shot mine much since i practice with my carry gun more g26. u might want to look at the special edition ones. i know i will get flammed becuase they look like a pimp gun but i think it looks cool. plus with the beretta i didnt like the steel, wasnt shinny enought for me.

The PT92 is an outstanding pistol, but be sure to get it in stainless steel. It is arguably the best semi-auto series Taurus makes. I like the position of the safety/decock lever on the Taurus better than I do on the Beretta. The finish is slightly better on the Beretta.

Be sure to get a stainless steel PT92. I have seen the blue finish fade on a few different Taurus models in a short time. Each had a different owner.

Take a look at the Taurus PT99 too. If you like adjustable sights, that would be a good choice. You might have to pay $20-30 more for it. I saw a new stainless PT99 just the other day for $439.

I had a Taurus PT101, which is the .40 S&W sibling of the PT92, but with adjustable sights. I liked it very much, but a Glock 30 (.45 ACP) caught my eye and I couldn't resist trading it in to buy the Glock. The Glock ain't as pretty as the Taurus, so every now and then I feel a little regret for trading in my Taurus. But shooting my Glock 30 cures those blues PDQ.
