Taurus PT111

I'm happy with mine.
Very reliable, feeds ammo well.
It has a somewhat heavy trigger, not as heavy as Keltec's, which is exactly what I want in a gun this size and for its intended mission.
While not a target gun, once you get used to the heavy trigger, the accuracy is easily more than acceptable.
Guess you can tell I like mine.

Legacy38,

Not to try to start an argument with David, but my experience was just the opposite of his. I picked up a PT111 about a year and a half ago and after firing about 300 rounds or so it broke to the point it wouldn't work. Sent it to Taurus and they fixed it but after getting it back I traded it away for a Kel-Tec P11 becuase I had lost all confidence in it.

I have found that the Kel-Tec has both a smoother and lighter (not much lighter though) trigger, is smaller and weighs less. Another bonus is that S&W model 59 hi-cap magazines fit in it.

To it's credit, though, the PT111 has a nicer finish, is a bit more accurate and comes with the excellent Taurus lifetime warranty but I can't recommend one based on my experience.

Lee, my experiences have all been positive. ShallCarry also liked my PT111. The downside, I have also heard horror stories but mine has yet to have a bauble. Regards, Richard.

This question has been asked regularly. Most respondents seem to have a negative impression of the PT-111. That said, most replies from people who have taken the time to really try out the PT-111 are favorable. I am quite satisfied with mine. I've put about 700 rounds through mine without a single failure to feed or misfire. It's reliable and sized for concealment.

Nothing against taurus personally as I am going to buy one of their Trackers models soon. The range I go to on a regular basis has had 4 of the pt 111 blow up on the range and he has since banned all of the 111`s from the range. This same guy used to recommend the taurus to all who asked about them.He now only recommends the revolvers from them.

Got one and love it. I have 500 rounds through it and I have never had a problem. It is accurate and very reliable.

The same question was asked on another forum.

My experience with the PT-111 and the Kel-Tec P-11 is similar. (I have a P-11 and its a good gun.)

Those who buy the PT-111 or the P-11 because its a full-capacity 9mm for a lower price, but who have little experience with handguns generally hate them. They are hard to shoot well, but can be mastered.

Those who have shot a lot, and have reasonable expectations about what these guns can do -- primarily designed for up close and personal self-defense -- generally have a good experience.

My preference is the P-11, but only becuase there is a very active user's group who can help you really refine the gun. (Check out WWW.KTOG.ORG)

All this said, I've quit carrying my P-11 and now carry a Star Firestar Plus. About the same size as the other two guns, a little heavier, same capacity, and far, far easier to shoot well. Nicer fit and finish, and still available new for around $250.

(I shot my P-11 in an IDPA match a few months back and did poorly, even though I shoot it a lot. I shot me Firestar Plus in our last local match [a small one, to be sure] and won by a substantial margin.

If you can't find a Firestar Plus, then either one will do. (grinning and ducking.)

I've got one, and while I liked the trigger, finish, accuracy, and looks better than the Kel-Tec I've had, the damn thing broke on me!
The disassembly latch broke while I was taking it apart. I've been waiting over a month now for Taurus to send me a replacement
part. When I get it, I'll be selling it to probably upgrade my HK91.

I tries the model 59 mags in my Kel-Tec, and it would not feed no matter what. That and the constant jamming, and after sending it back for repairs twice, I got rid of it. I liked it, but it was unreliable.

Mine has been a nightmare. It shot 3 feet low at 10 yards. I spent 4 months trying to find ammo that it liked. I started using Mag Tech 115 grn. FMJ, and now it shoots only 3" low at 10 yards. It also will not hold any better than a 5" group at that distance. I hated the trigger, so I began replacing springs until I found one that both helps the trigger pull, and is still reliable. I worked on this gun more than any other that I own. And after all the mess, I still will only use it for plinking. I like Taurus handguns, but my PT-111 has been nothing but problems. My wife bought it for me, or I would trade it. If I was looking for a gun in that price range, I would get a Ruger P-95. They are bigger, but much better. I never shot a Kel-Tec so I can't compare.

Mike,

The hi-cap magazines I got for my P11 were made by Mec-Gar. I have heard some other brands (mostly Pro Mag) don't work as well.

Strange that the factory didn't fix the jamming problems (unless that was just with the hi-caps?) when you sent the pistol to them. I have heard very good things regarding Kel-Tec's customer service.
