I did a serch on the Taurus PT111...and most threads were between 1yr and 1 1/2 yr old. Most also were not too impressed with the pt111....especially the trigger pull. Has anyone bought a more recent PT111? I wondered if they had gotten any better.

Just had one come in...

...for a trade. The guy bought it a couple months ago from another shop for full retail $$$ plus, and found it to be a jam-o-matic with a heavy, gritty trigger pull. He sent it back to Taurus, and it came back as a jam-o-matic with a heavy trigger pull.

He's now trading it in on a Taurus 85UL. The Millenium series remains the only Taurus product we won't stock.

I do not know about the PT111. It did get a good write up in the American Rifleman, but that million dollar donation might have had something to do with it!!! ;) I do know about the PT145.
The heavy trigger pull is a result of the fact that it is a DAO pistol. It kinda reminds me of the pull on the Walther P5. There is nothing that can be done about that. It is just how the beast was designed. The grittyness goes away after 500 rounds or so!! My guess is that nobody wants to take the time put that many rounds through it, which is strange, because that is the minimum number of rounds necessary to authenticate it as a dependable carry pistol!!. The jam-o-matic part I don't understand either, at least as far as the 145 goes. I have 600 rounds through mine now without so much as one jam!!! The PT145 is the same basic design as the PT-111 only in .45ACP, so I do not think for a minute that I have the only one in the universe that works!!!

I recall that there were problems with the Millenium design when it FIRST came out. This is to be expected. No brand new engineering design is without fault when it first hits the market!!! Consumer feedback is part of the refinement process!!! I think the bugs have been worked out!!!!! Based upon the preformance of the PT145, I'd buy a 111, that is if I didn't have so dang many 9mm's already!!!! ;)

My Taurus PT-111 is still fairly new. Other than it jamming on Gold Dot ammo during the first 100 rounds, it has been fine. (Gun has NEVER jammed after firing a round - only when trying to get the first round into the chamber after inserting the magazine.)

Personally, I am satisfied with the trigger pull. I "stage" the pull. Once I am on the target, I pull the trigger about 2/3s of it's travel. I zero in on the exact spot and then pull again. This works fine for me. If I pull the trigger the whole way at once, accuracy suffers slightly. -and I if slow down the pull to regain accuracy, I am concerned that time might becomes an issue in a defensive situation.

I wish I'd found TFL before I bought my first semi-auto but I really do not regret buying a PT-111. It is fairly small, light, and concealable. I believe that the "jamming problem" is OK now. The gun feels reasonably comfortable to shoot and is more accurate than I expected. I bought it new for $329.95.

I much prefer single-action when shooting at the range but I feel better with the longer trigger pull when using it for defense. The only complaint that I have about it right now is that I can't seem to find holsters for it locally. (I am currently using a Glock holster that fits it just fine.)

It has a manual safety and being DAO, I feel comforatable about keeping a round in the chamber if I feel the situation warrants it. It also has an integral "lock" and comes with two keys. Should I need to temporarily secure the gun from firing it is easy to do. This seems MUCH better than a trigger lock.

I DO, however, very much agree with another member of the board about one thing though. - Try to avoid letting price dictate which gun you buy. I have found other guns that "feel better" in my hand and are probably a bit more "polished" and refined BUT if really can't spend over $350, I think that the Taurus PT-111 is worth checking out.

the pt111 millinium was one of two pistols i was considering buying at the end of august. for me, i wanted a small ccw pistol, and i have small hands, so reaching the safety on most pistols isnt happening cause of my short thumb. i also wanted a fairly light pistol, composite if possible, and in the 9mm caliber. the other pistol in my decsion was a kel-tec p-11. the p11 was 209 and the taurus was 279, advantage, kel tec. weigh and size, the p-11 won both of those. capacity, both are 10+1. ok, givin the differance in price, i was willing to spend the more loot for the taurus if it felt good in my hands. the weight, hell whats a few ounces here and there. so for me, the real test came down to feel. my local gun shop allows dry fires, and thank god it does. the both felt good, the kel tec is slightly thinner, both have nice sites but....the kel tec has been critisized for having a heavy LONG trigger pull. heavy, not really, 8lbs for a doa is fine with me, especitally since there isnt a safety on the gun, the doa IS the safety. the taurus, slightly shorter trigger pull, but 1/3-1/2 thru the trigger pull, it felt as if it was chaffeing something. felt like there was friction and somewhat of a hesitation. i did not like that at all. i deceide that was the factor for me to go with the kel-tec. yes i did have some minor feed and eject problems, all taken care of by kel-tec's wonderfull customer survice. 550 rnds thru it and i still enjoy shooting it. i do plan on getting the trigger shoe though, and have the pinkie extender. i also paid the extra 20 bux to exchange my blued slide for a hard chrome one with barrel and pin.

as for holsters, i decided on a galco sob holster. shouldnt b a problem because winter is coming up and can very easily hide it under sweaters, shirts, etc. galco doesnt make a holster for the keltec, but after some searching at the local range, we found one that fits, its for a s&w 6906 if any of u are interested. im sure when warmer weather comes i will be buying a iwb holster, but will most likely get a left handed one (im a righty) and carry in sob. some dont like it for fear of falling on it, i think its far more comfy then cross draw, or strong side.

theres my very long 2 cents. hope that helps u out some

I researched the boards for input on the PT-111, most were negative. I checked them out at a gunshop, they seemed "cheap". I wound up with a Glock 26, spent more for it, but I love that little gun!
