Taurus PT111 info

I'm looking for info on the Pt111. A local dealer has some for $320.00. Seems like a neat gun, would be good for carry or a BUG. Anyone out there have one? What are your impressions? I know the PT145 has been getting a bad rap for frame cracks, anyone had any trouble with the PT111?

The PT111 has a tough trigger pull. Also quirky to reassemble.
I bought one a few years ago that would jam when reassembled. The slide would be stuck solid halfway on the receiver. Sent it back three times to Taurus. They would reassemble it but claim nothing wrong with it. Never got to fire it and fortunately the dealer took it back.

Sometimes, for fun, when I see a Pt111 at a show I ask the dealer to take it down and put it back together. Hours later he'll still be struggling with it.

Before you buy one, have the dealer take it apart and put it back together in front of you. It's a nice looking pistol and carry size, but I hope Taurus will eventually get the manufacturing snafus fixed.

I personally owned a PT140 which is quite similar to the 111, I had the same problem reassembling it the first time I took it apart but after working the trigger (pulling it back) it went right together. Unfortunately it sheared the slide pins on me so I traded it for a Steyer M40. A freind of mine has a PT111 we've put about 3000rds. through with out a single problem. He hasn't said anything about reassembly problems.

I have an early PT-111 that has worked perfect and am still very happy with it , but a friend bought a newer one that turned out to be a very poor gun with nothing but trouble and I have read of frame cracks in the larger calibers.. As stated they can be a pain to put back together , The first time I tried it took forever , I found that the barrel tends to ride to far back with the frame. A later Taurus manual I have seen now addresses this issue .
I am happy with the one I have but would buy something else in todays market as there seems to be quality control issues .

I got a new one, it now has 100 rounds through it. While I have never had a jam, even with HP ammo, I will never buy another. I had not even owned it for a week before it had to make a trip back to Taurus for a broken Trigger. I wanted to trade it off but no one wanted it, so I will keep it and shoot the hell out of it.

COK got it right. For some reason, Taurus doesn't mention in their manual (not in the one I've got anyways) that the barrel does not line up perfectly when you're reassembling--you've got to look in the takedown pin's hole and line up the hole in the frame with the notch in the barrel.

It's simple once you figure it out...but I felt like a dumbass once I did.

My wife bought one on of these. When she field stripped the weapon, it would not go back together. We took it to a smithy, who said that something was not aligned correctly. They sent it off to Taurus (2 weeks ago) and are still waiting. I was not impressed with the quality. I own a Taurus Raging Bull 454, which is a built like a battleship (you could even disable the bad guys with by throwing it at the head ;) We were a little suprised at the quality of the 111.
