Taurus PT-945

A local dealer here has a stainless PT 945 with ported barrel going for 389.00. Seems like a good price as the gun is in really good condition. Anyone have any experience with this model or Taurus in general? All I've heard and read say Taurus makes good guns. Any input would be appreciated.

Taurus makes very solid pistols, and with the exception of the Millenium 45, I can recommend all of them. You can't go wrong with Taurus pistols, but stay away from the Millenium in .45 ACP!!

My PT940 is one of my favorite handguns. It is the slightly smaller, .40S&W version of the PT945. Mine is black.

My pistol is very accurate and reliably feeds anything I have loaded it with. You have the option of cocked and locked SA, or hammer down DA/SA carry. The alloy frame offers a reasonably light weight for carry purposes.

The only drawbacks I have experienced is the lack of aftermarket support. I haven't been able to locate any other grips other than what Taurus sells, the sight dovetails appear to be a unique design, and it seems the major production leather holster manufacturers (ex. - GALCO) don't produce products for it, although many of the smaller manufacturers do. Extra magazines, at least for the PT940 aren't exactly cheap at about $25-$30 each either, but that is about what a premium Wilson 1911 mag goes for.

I have been very tempted to sell mine a few times; I don't really have a role for it. It's the only .40S&W I own, I have a smaller, lightweight 1911 in .45ACP for carry & a full sized 1911 for range work. It's not a collectable (like my Maks :) !), & my .22 guns are for plinking. But I just like it, & always shy away from selling it off.

I paid about $340 for by black (blue?) gun when I purchased it new, approximately 1 month after S&W signed the agreement. Actually, the only reason I bought it at all was to show support for Taurus in having the backbone not to cave in as S&W did. I'm not sure what the SS versions are going for new; I don't believe they cost too much more than the black ones do so $389 might be a little high. Look around the auction & classified sites & see what a new one sells for. As far as the gun goes, I would recommend Taurus in a heartbeat.
