Taurus PT-145

Has anyone here had an opportunity to shoot Taurus's new Millennium PT-145 yet??

I am suffering from GAS (gun acquisition syndrome) again and ran across one of these at my semi-local gun shop for $349. It feels rather good in hand and seems to have pretty good balance. Just curious if anyone has had any first-hand experience with one.

I waited a long time to get one, had my dealer order it when the ad first came out. Well it finally arrived, took it home, disassembled, cleaned, lubed, off to the range. 50 rounds of PMC ball, 20 rounds 200gr. SWC reloads, fed them all without a hitch...BUT the darn thing had the worst trigger pull since my HK VP70Z.......Striker fired so I don`t think you can improve it much. Anyway I cleaned it up real good, put it back in the box, sold it the next day............

Once again, here is a pistol that has yet to hit Phoenix AZ. My gunshop is a bigtime Taurus dealer. Haven't seen it yet. When I do, I'll let you know!!! ;)

I don't know why everybody likes to bash the Millennium. I've got one, and I think it's an excellent little gun. The trigger pull is on the heavy side, though relatively short. It's not so bad, and you can get used to it. Mine has been very reliable and quite accurate. It packs a lot of power for such a small gun, perfect for concealed carry, and the trigger certainly doesn't deter me from practicing at the range.

Thanks for the input so far.
I agree that the trigger is somewhat questionable, to me anyway. It reminds me very much of the feel of some of the DAO autos out there.
StephenT, It is not really bashing the Millennium, It is just opinions on the trigger feel, some may like/prefer it, others will hate it. Personally I prefer the tuned competition trigger of my Delta Elite, though have learned to be very proficient with the triggers on my Glocks, and 10-15 years ago I was very good with a DA Revolver trigger. The trigger on the PT-145 I looked at and dry fired did feel heavy and had a rather long travel, (when compared to that of a SA or even a Glock) but not un-masterable.

I was curious about others opinions/experiences on the trigger, feeding reliability and general handling qualities. This has been somewhat covered in the replies so far. I appreciate that.

I should have picked it up the other day when I was looking at it. As it is now that store closed for a weeks vacation. When they open back up next week, I will be gone to AT with my Army Reserve Unit. So it will be three weeks before I am able to make it back in that store. If I am lucky, it or another one will still be on his shelves. If not something else just might catch my eye. The PT-145 caught my eye as it is quite compact, in fact it is a bit smaller than the G30. And the slide is narrower, which better facilitates IWB carry.

Thanks again

denfoote,
So you are a desert dweller?? ;) I lived in the Phoenix area from 90-95. I can't believe you can't find a PT-145 in that town. Seems I remember at least six descent gun shops in just Phoenix and Glendale. Well times change. Good luck in your endeavor to find/acquire one. :D

I used to want one...

Until I started hearing about some people's problems... I like how the titanium looks, but after hearing people complain about all their FTF's and how it can be a pain to disassemble, I think I can wait until I hear more things about their longevity. Besides, I think there's a 1911 Sistema waiting for me. Or at least an HS2000 that are both in that price range.

StephenT -- I was one of the ones "bashing" Taurus for the Millennium. As I said in another thread, I bought my PT-140 sometime last November and had horrible feeding problems on the first trip to the range. So far I've sent back twice with very detailed info about what it was doing, and it finally is working about 90-95%. It still has some weird slide problem. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to send it back one more time or what.

In all, I can say I did some research before buying that gun and was really WANTING to like it. I really did. The size and weight are good for CCW, although the trigger really is too long, too heavy, and mine feels like it is dragging on something. The gun is NOT fun to shoot. It's actually a bit on the painful side -- but I'm not sure why. Maybe weird ergonomics or something.

I was an idiot for buying it without shooting it first though. I've learned my lesson. I'm not sure what I was thinking. :)

Anyway, my advice to anyone thinking of getting one of these Millennia <g>, is to put a few hundred rounds through it at the range while someone else still owns it and see if you still like it.

p.s. Mine's for sale if anyone is interested!! :)
