Taurus PT-111

Last Saturday I went to shoot my NIB Taurus PT-111 and put 250rds through her. And yesterday I went back to the range and I shot my Taurus PT-111 for the second time. I shot 500rds through her without a jam or any problem. I been hearing lots of bad stuff about this gun, that it jams and that this broke and that you got rid of it. I haven't had any problem with her and I put different 9mm loads through her without a hitch. Maybe Taurus fixed all the past problems with this firearm. I did notice that this new PT-111 has a Taurus security system locking device(on the side of the firearm) which the owner can lock-it with a special key Taurus gives the buyer. And the old PT-111 does not have this security device. Maybe the new PT-111 I bought is the new 2nd. edition, and was improved. Because, if this was a crappy gun it would of malfunction already, but it has not. I am know looking on buying the Taurus Model 617 .357Mag revolver and in the future the Taurus PT-145. I am know going back to the indoor range and put 300rds more to complete the +1000rds test. I will be back to report futher. Later.

Hey Ed,
I was just wondering. Does the key that fits my Taurus M85 also fit any other Tauri??? Might be worth looking into from a security standpoint!!!! ;)

Ed,
Maybe Taurus has indeed done some work on the PT111. However, I don't think the problem was jams, it was the trigger. How is the trigger on your new PT111? The one that my father in law owns does not have the locking device, so yours must be a later model. My FIL never had any problems with anything but the trigger. It is hard to pull and feels gritty.

I have a PT111 without the 'safety lock'. It, too, is completely reliable. My trigger is heavy but not gritty. Surprisingly, it is a good shooter, good at 'point shooting'. I like it-use it for concealed carry some. Good luck with yours.

To Denfoote:
I am not sure, but all the security safety locks keys look alike. It should fit all models. Unless it is a police firearm, then it is different(Police new line of Taurus models with the safety key locks are different, they use a handcuff key to lock and unlock the safety lock).

To WLM:
My trigger is heavy, it is a DAO obcourse, but it is not gritty.

To critter44:
Thanks critter44 for the good luck.

Yesterday evening I went back to the range and shot 300 more rounds without a hitch. I believe know I could trust this firearm with my life. I have a total of 1050rds through her know. I believe I will buy another PT series handgun, the PT-145. But first I want a revolver, maybe the Taurus model 617 7-shot .357Magnum, then I'll get the PT-145. I am also in the market for a pump shotgun, I am stuck with two choices the Remi 870 or Mossy 500, I really want a short barrel one(a legal one obcourse). Thanks and later.
