Taurus Model 669 rear sight question

I've just got a very nice Taurus Model 669 w/6" barrel in a trade, and although the gun is in excellent condition, the rear adjustable sight blade can be "wiggled" as can the entire rear sight unit....Is this normal? I'm comparing it to the rear adjustable sights on my Smiths and Rugers, and they are both rock solid. It shouldn't be a problem, as the sight returns to "detent" every time, but it just bugs me... ;)

Course you'r talking about adjustable sights, right?

The sight on my Taurus 669 does have a little play or "wiggle" in it. I've never noticed it to affect accuracy at all. Don't know if it's normal, but suspect it is.

It does appear that the sight on my S&W 686 is a little more secure, but there's a little play in it too. I don't think that either one is enough to worry about and that it is unlikely I'll have anything pressing on the side of my sight that much while in mid trigger press.

Movement in either gun is on the order of a couple hundredths of an inch, if that.

Anyone else?

Thanks, yorec.
I guess that's how the rear adjustable sight is on a 669....It just seemed to have a lot of movement compared to other revolver rear adjustable sights. If it's normal, then that's OK....I do agree that it shouldn't affect accuracy. Would the Taurus 669 be equivalent to a S&W K frame or L frame?

The S&W frame names aren't one of my specialties, but I think the standard 686 six shot .357 mag is a K frame. Get a 686 seven shot .357 mag and its an L frame. So I'd gues the Taurus would be closest to a K frame, but deffinately not exact...

I purchased my Taurus 669 as a practice gun to become better with the 686 the department I worked for at the time issued. They wouldn't let the gun come home and I wanted to be more proficient with it. The 669 fit the bill pretty well as it was the same size, same general feel, and had a price tag that fit my budget a lot better than a real 686.

I own both those guns still today - the practice Taurus 669 and the issued S&W 686 which I latter bought when the guns were replaced with auto-loaders. I wouldn't give up either.

I got both the Taurus 669 and the S&W 686 within a week of each other...more by accident than design. I traded a Bushmaster AR15 LEO/Govt complete lower receiver for the Taurus + $80 (US$50), and picked up the 686 from a fellow who's 'reducing his inventory'. I haven't had a chance to shoot either gun yet... :o ..but hope to this coming weekend. I'm looking forward to comparing them to my Ruger Security Six. :)
