I carry my Model 85 UL under my weakside armpit in a belly band over my armor. It is corroding, not rust, more like black spots. Can I have this refinished and what would be the best finish for it? Thanks in advance.
It is sweat acid erosion. The first thing to do is pull the grips. You will likely find heavy erosion under the grips. The revolver may be returned to Taurus for evaluation/replacement. I have had the same problem. The repolish and replating over the pitting is a possible solution. Your body sweat is acidic. The better solution is daily drying out, cleaning and waxing with a good carnauba wax for protection. Prevention is better than trying to fix the problem. A S&W M60 mght be better. You still need to wax it.
