Ijust put $ down on a mod 65 Taurus...he wants $169 for it..it seems to be in pretty good shape...3" tube ,SS..the only proble is the grips dn't fit properly(I think the screw is stripped)...
1)is this a good gun?
2)good buy?
3)can I get Houges or Pachmyers?
4)should I call Taurus and get new grips(not covered by liftime warrentee)?
thanks for your help.....

1) Sounds like a good deal to me, I probably would have bought it.

2) My only experience with Taurus is my Wife's new (last year) Tracker 627SS4. Very nice, awesome trigger....shoots straight... I'd by another if I wanted a ported 7-shooter (btw: I'm in the market..sorta.. for a Mod 65 too).

3) Not sure on aftermarket grips, check their websites (don't have the addy handy, but easy to find).

4) Taurus has a few grip options available. As far as why the grips don't fit right, could you describe how it is they aren't fitting right?

If the grips have a single screw in the base, I know it's easy to over tighten which can rip through the grip. The threading shouldn't have stripped under anything less than the most heinious abuse.

I've had my Model 65 for over ten years & have never had any problems with it except for when I tried to put Pachmyer grips on it; they just did not fit right even though they were supposed to be for that model. The price is reasonable and I have enough faith in it to keep it on the nightstand when the lights go out.
