anyone have one of these pistols? it is the .40SW version in taurus' subcompact semi-auto line. look into to buying one, and was interested in the PT145 (.45ACP) but read many articles about the polymer frame cracking from the .45 power. any help is appreciated.

PT140

I have a stainless steel PT40 and it has worked very nicely through about 800 rounds. The spring that holds the slide disassembly latch in place broke at roughly 500 rounds and it took several weeks to get a new one, but all is well again. I have seen posts on various forums that some PT111's and PT140's have had problems with the pins that hold the frame in the polymer grip coming out but have not seen signs of that on mine.

Its really hit and miss with the polymer Taurus line. As for the rest of the Taurus line (revolvers and PT line) they are a good quality weapon. Some here will disagree but take it for what its worth just like Im saying. I have owned two Taurus hanguns and have never had any problems. As for the polymer line, well there seems to be too many problems with them at the current time to invest any money on buying as far as Im concerned. Id wait till they get it taken care of. If money isnt an issue then by all means take a look at the Kahr line.

Help with a polymer Taurus???

Better look in another direction. A lot of better alternatives out there, even cheaper.

If you still have doubts, use the search feature and look for "Skyslash" & "denfoote" + "pt-111" and "pt-145".

Anyways, welcome to TFL!!! :)

thanks to all for your comments. it really helps me a lot. it would be my first polymer pistol, but i think i'll make the smart move and go Glock 19 or 23. after all Glocks are so easy to customize, i kind of compare them to the Ford Mustang.... there are so many parts, and so many tweaks to make them better than stock.

thanks

Denfoote here. I'm not going to rehash everything here. My case is documentated by my gunsmith and FFL. I have only one word of advice. Do the search, then:

I have a PT111:barf: :barf:! I wanted to trade it for a revolver but no one wanted it, now I am stuck with it. I think that I will shoot the hell out of it. I want to see how long it will last. :D

PT140

JC,

No problems with PT 140. Lots of rounds, very dependable. Hope you like double actions. Stick with 165 grain ammo or less or the pic that TIR posted is what will happen.

I have an early PT-111 that has worked perfect and am still very happy with it , but a friend bought a newer one that turned out to be a very poor gun with nothing but trouble so I think your taking a chance with this model.
