Taurus M65 .357magnum service revolver

Fired my new Taurus M65 4" stainless .357 yesterday with full house loads - what a comfortable revolver!!! I could shoot full house loads all day out of this heavy duty puppy. I don't see any threads on here about the M65 and wonder why people might pass up this beast. Mine is flawless with absolutely beautiful action that works like a smooth clock! Thats goes for firing in DA and SA mode too. Very tight 2" groupings were acheived at 20 yards with Sellier and Bellot 158 grain FMJ ( a great target round), The Magtech .357 first defense rounds ( 98 grain solid copper Hp) were exteremely loud with massive muzzle flare signatures- not something I would want in combat! Hello Iam over here!! See my fireball??? LOL The CCI Blazer 357 158 grainers were outstanding - tightest groups came from these and the Sellier and Bellots. I just ordered 20 assorted boxes in all types of .357 , .38 special, and .38 special +P loads to further test this as so far great service revolver -I'll post results. I guess I got one of the good ones - anyone have one of these????

Not an M65, but a M689...>

...quite similar from what I can see. I have only 900 rounds through it so far, but so far, so good. I shoot a mix of .357 and .38spl. I have found that a good cleaning of the chambers is required after shooting .38spl rounds to remove the fouling left by the slightly shorter cartridges, otherwise the .357 cases can stick, making extraction difficult.

When looking at alternative revolvers I found this model fitted smaller hands better than some others, particularly for D/A shooting. However, I have to say that my D/A shooting still leaves much to be desired! The single action trigger pull on my M689 is very good, the D/A only average compared to other revolvers I have shot (S&W & Rugers). I find the 4" barrel makes for a handier package than a 6", but the shorter sight base does make itself felt.

Doogle - now thats a tough looking Taurus!! I like the ribbed barrel in addition to the full underlug.Do you know what year it is? I would'nt mind buying one second hand or new old stock(if no longer produced) if I could find it at a gun show. Thanks. T

Taurus does make nice .357 revolvers...

I chucked the grips on my M608SS4 right away. I wanted the hogue mono grip.

I can shoot wimpy cowboy action 38spl all the way upto full house "bear stoppers" (158gr Speer GDHP/15.5gr H110/Fed200 primer) and it works quite well. I don't shoot those monster rounds all the time. Just for when I want to scare the heebee jeebees out of the guys in the lane next to mine. :D

I was torn between the M44 and the M608. I knew I wanted a 4" stainless. Both were about the same price. Since I already load 38/357, I figured one more .357 in the gun cab would not be so bad. And the idea of having 8 rds to draw from only made sense.

I have a Bianchi 7001 Accumold thumbsnap holster for it as well. (its actually for an N frame 44, but, it fits the M608 like a glove)

Some pics of my M608.

I don't know what year my M689 is...>

To 75thRangerRegiment...

I got the revolver approx a year ago, and it was in the latest Taurus paper catalogue at that time but not in their online one. The Taurus online serial number check facility doesn't work and so I haven't been able to get a year of manufacture. I've noted a small number of M689's being sold new over the past year and so they can't be too old, but doesn't seem to be a current model.

Thanks.
