Taurus M62 .22LR

Anyone own one of these ? I'd like to hear how these rifles perform and whether they are worth their $250 price tag. I'm looking into purchasing my first rifle. While most would twist my arm into getting a 10/22, the idea of a nostalgic pump action seems kinda cool.

A friend has one in SS. Stiff at first but seems to be smoothing out with use. Not a tack driver, stays around an inch at 50 yds. Sights to blame mostly. The worst part for me is the firing pin lock, ruins the lines of a nice little rifle. The hammer lock/safety is a plus. If looking for a different, fun plinker I'd say yes it's worth the money.

Be careful what you ask for..You may get it.
An unloaded pistol is a paperweight.

Thanks for responding 3 gun, I guess it's still relatively new so not too many people are familiar with it. Are their any other pump .22's out their worth looking at ?

Rossi .22lr and .22mag that preceded the Taurus have cleaner lines and are quite decent. I know a guy who owns four of them (two in each caliber) and nonehave malfunctioned yet. I happen to like the sights on them: a deep rear notch and a tall thin front blade work fine for my bad eyes.

The current issue of Shooting Times reviews this rifle, and raves about it. The reviewer obtained 50 yard groups under 1 inch, with a scoped, but otherwise unmodified rifle. I went made some inquiries around here today about acquiring one. Seems like a darn nice little plinker for a good price.

Yea, it seems like there are more of the Rossis in circulation, but since Taurus took over the rifle isn't in production any more. The 62 is supposedly the "best" of the old Winchester 62 and the Rossi pump .22, albeit with the hammer lock :( .

MightyQuinn, thanks for clueing me in on the article, I'll be sure to pick it up.
