Taurus M44

Ok I have about 400 dollars to spend at a local gunshop. They have recently gotten in a bunch of Taurus Model 44s in. This is of course in 44 mag hehehe. THese have 6.5 inch barrels and I was offered one for 429.00 plus tax. Now these have a Stainless Satin finish (thank god I hate glossy) and are ported. Now. Does anyone have one of these. What do they think of them? Are they reliable and acurate. Is this a good deal?
Next I know the .44 Mag is a round from hell. But what kind of range can you concivably get out of this calliber? Anything I should know about it, etc, etc

I have a friend that has the 4" model. He hasn't shot it very much but no problems so far. Taurus seems to have hit and miss quality control. Check it out thoroughly before guying. The one my friend's had some unfinished work on the hammer. Personally, if your going with a 6" version, I assume it's not for concealed carry and would reccommend a Ruger Redhawk or Super Redhawk. They are much tougher guns and not more expensive. I would be worried about using very much full power loads in a Taurus. Even the Smith's have some problems with full tilt loads and that doesn't inspire confidence in me about the Taurs which isn't in the same metalurgy ballpark. Nothing against Taurus, but I wouldn't trust one in .44mag. Just my opinion.

Kevinw, I have the model 44 with the 6 1/2" barrel, and yes it is polished, very good looking gun I might ad. It has been very accurate with and without the scope I got for it. I handload all my 44 ammo, so I shoot it quite a bit. $429 sounds like a pretty good price. I got mine about 1 1/2 years ago and paid $399. The gun is also very reliable, of course it should be, its a revolver.
